"lmao thanks for the vote of confidence mate. my dads already a multi millionaire asset wise so I kinda coast on his success and fuck bitches / make music / hobbies. trying to get my money right now though cuz he's kinda tired of my shit but it's so fucking boring. hard to find that right mix of doing what you love / what actually pays."

Are you by chance left-leaning on the political spectrum

no. sorry I don't fit into your labels. PS I like trump.

You're dodging the question. Work inherently sucks for most people. If you have the privilege to avoid it, it should be avoided lol. imo. Unless like I said, you know some magical way to make pesos that is more enjoyable than making music, hobbies, and fucking bitches. Or if you have exceptional talent or unfair advantage eg) Elon Musk level iq and creative mind which most people aren't that gifted genetically to be able to command such a powerful salary in the marketplace. OR you have to forego a decade of your prime energy/life with hopes of a high earning career which is becoming less and less gueranteed at the expense of enjoying life in presant..

There's no moral high ground to work if you don't have a choice to work or not (let's be real 99% of people are not gunna choose homelessness and will stick with a job that don't love over that) I'd work a job I hated to avoid homelessness / poverty for sure but that doesn't make you exceptional. (though I don't know your story)

would you seriously do what you're doing right now if you had all your needs met? 99% of people I'd imagine a resounding NO.

eh, most people probably do hate their job, and that sucks. most people would probably prefer to do whatever they want all day and find fulfillment that way.

however, most people also don't have the discipline to commit to having a well-rounded, challenging, engaging and meaningful life when their monetary needs are met and they aren't self made. they resort to superficial means of "happiness" ie drugs, sex, partying, status etc. and paradoxially would do much better if they were essentially a slave to their trivial seeming job.

all the superficial shit might make some people genuinely happy, but usually you don't wanna hang around those kinds of people because they're deeply imbalanced. if you're at all "normal" or balanced, or want to be balanced, you'll find that your work is very important, not just as a means to make money, but as a means to develop character, navigate hardships/obstacles, and realize the importance of independence, competence and the value of what it actually means to make a dollar.

I've lived around poor people and I've lived around rich people. I feel way more sorry for rich kids (not their parents,) because they almost always end up fucking up their lives way more than poverty does, and they're usually way more unhappy too. they have no idea why work is important, they have no meaning in their lives and they don't develop any skills that help them survive in the modern world.

@jacknap to answer your question of what job to replicate that is enjoyable and pays the bills: I have my answer. I don't know what that answer is for you because I don't know who you are as well as you do. you know what you want, you say you like music, do you like it enough to try and put yourself out there as a struggling artist and the accept the inevitable failure and possible success? I've made it as an artist and owning my own business and I believe I've found the right balance for me. But honestly, after all of this health shit, I'd say I'm even more passionate about getting peoples lives together, on both the molecular level and the intellectual level, than what I'm doing now. It's something I know I'll have a future in.

So find what's important to you, and find a way to make money from it. Be broke if it calls for that. I'd value a meaningful day over a fat bank account any day. But man, getting both of those things together, that's a beautiful thing.

How does politics always get involved in threads related to health?

This seems to have become a recurring theme on this board here lately lol. But I guess if you think about it, that’s on par with the outside world as well.

Politics have never been this much of a mainstream issue in people's lives, especially young people. I've never seen people this passionate about politics to the point where its destroying relationships and, at least in america, an entire split of the country right down the middle is occurring, of 2 very different sides. It's a shame that people dont realize that both sides have some very serious flaws, as well as benefits, and why one side or the other works for one person and not for the other. No one wants to understand or even learn. MSM is a lot to blame. It's not even an issue of politics for most that I see anymore, just an issue of "what side are you on?"

Pretty fucking sad honestly.

Yeah I think it's cause the internet puts everyone in bubbles now, makes it easier for people to believe that the other side is evil and stupid when they don't have as much direct contact with them

Politic's is becoming almost tribal now, liberals and conservatives are so opposed to each other, it's hard to predict how things will shape out moving forward.

I saw some footage recently where some students at Berkeley college were asked to give them opinions on Bernie Sanders proposed policies, and on Trump's. They all loved Bernies, and hated all of Trump's, however the interviewer then tells them that the policies are reversed, so they were actually loving Trump's and hating Bernies. Obviously their heads exploded, but it just goes to show the level where it's gone. There's people in my workplace like this, they will hate every policy of Trump's, not because of the policy. just simply because it's Trump's. Pretty crazy, it's totally irrational to have that approach.

The thing with these videos is that they interview a ton of people, and then edit it down to only show the most foolish people. It's the same when they send people to Trump rallies, you send someone over to ask a lot of questions designed to make Trump supporters look dumb, and you only need a handful of funny responses to make a video. Then from the videos you get the impression that everyone is like that, when really most people aren't

That's trued to an extent, but the point I'm getting at is there are people like that I know personally who adopt this sort of thinking - i.e. they hate the person whose policy it is, rather than assessing the policy itself on it's own merits. That's not rational thinking, it just goes to show the extent of the divide.

Got a link?

@raven has a point, and I think the issue here is mainly that sensationalist videos and articles where "dumb people say dumb things on the side you dont like" sells way more than a discussion between people who actually want to improve things.

Unless you're someone like Shapiro, Peterson or Rogan who all are excellent conversationalists and help people really learn and educate themselves in what is now considered mainstream on the net with a lot of facts and truth ( less so Rogan, but he's less political and more philosophical and has great guests.)

Gives me hope that at least people value truth and honest conversation over just satisfying their ego or confirming their beliefs with like minded individuals and falling for cheap content aimed only to provoke a response and ultimately sell more while attacking opponents without actual debate.

Students love Trump's tax plan when they think it's Bernie's

There's been a few, one above.

I don't identify with any political party. I just try to vote with what's in my best interests which candidate fufills that. Unfortunately 'taxation without representation' has become everpresant. People get too caught up with virtue signalling / morality but if you actually look closely 99% of people vote for what's in their interests and then rationalize after the fact. I don't mind people being selfish, what pisses me off is selfish actions and then claiming a moral high ground when really people just mostly vote for their self interests. eg) women vastly vote left leaning when they're single because they want cushy government jobs etc. but when they're married to an alpha provider they vote more conservative because she thrives if her husband is a high earner more. It's all bullshit imo.

You won't understand politics today without basic knowledge of marxism and it;s riders of apocalypse: Adorno,Horckheimer, Marcuse, Habermas,Spinelli. No matter whether it's republican guy or democrat guy, or EU leader they end universities where they were brainwashed by this ,,gangsters''.

Do your best to live outside the system... as much as possible (not talking about 100% off the grid -- not yet at least).

@jacknap have u seen Jordan Peterson on youtube? I recommend his book '12 rules for life' to give you some ideas and inspiration. One of the ideas is that the default state is laziness, to work and pick your own ass up... thats the miracle.
If you really were satisfied living off your dads coat tails, i dont think youd be posting here about it. You'd just be enjoying it. Fucking bitches and hobbies are enjoyable - but are they satisfying? Does it provide meaning?

If you want meaning it might mean a paradigm change: fucking bitches might be fun (but meaningless), but now think about the opposite: fully dedicating yourself to one cause. That might be monk bachelor life in a cave meditating. That might mean finding one woman and saying shes the one, that youll work shit out with her no matter what happens. Its a leap of faith. Its risky. But its meaningful and potentially very worth while.

I think some people in our generation are particularly lucky / unmotivated. I mean think about it, two or three generations ago we were literally fighting world war 2. These days we're fighting over gender pronouns and political correctness. Lol.

We have so much wealth and free time we fucked ourselves over with drugs to stop hairloss or prevent acne. First world problems... while kids in 3rd world countries starve.

Still, we're not really men unless we stand on our own two feet. "A man in shining armour is just a man who hasnt had his metal truly tested"

I also like the concept that sometimes in life we're just in a shit situation, even rich and wealthy people suffer 'first world problems' which are very real like depression or anxiety. If the solution is either work and suffer for loved ones and meaning, or live with existential angst and meaningless - eitherway youre fucked right?
Sometimes there is no "non suffering" way out. But youre free to choose the way in which you suffer, and that is super liberating.

maybe you even suffer more via the "meaningful suffering" route - but perhaps your ability to suffer expands, and you are fulfilled somewhat anyway through the process.

I think either way, nutritional balancing give us more energy and focus to take on whatever we decide to. So its universally helpful which is why its so good.

This is the real shit.

One of the best posts I’ve read in a long time, and I also love me some Jordan Peterson - ever since I first heard him on another podcast I listen to. Excellent guy.
