Accutane and Sexual Dysfunction

Hi there,

I just wanted to make a thread and see if anyone with post-accutane syndrome, specifically with side effects relating to sexual dysfunction (loss of libido, loss of morning wood, lack of sexual arousal/response, less pleasure from orgasm) has found anything in regards to protocols, supplements etc. that relieved any of their sexual dysfunction symptoms? Also if they could give any info on their sexual symptoms and how long they have had them.

Additionally has anyone with post-accutane syndrome had their growth hormone, IGF-1 or IGFBP-3 levels tested?

Hey brother, my first post here. I’m 19 and Accutane destroyed my sex life. After being fucked from this shit and being a total asexual fuck in college after my previous years being a very sex driven kid with above range natural test levels. I started abusing steroids and ran super high doses of test and DHT (masteron) and superdrol. my sex drive and sensation was completely back, but then my body becam accustomed and it lowered but to a WAY better baseline. Off of exogenous hormones my e2 was low and I couldn’t even but in my girlfriend. On TEst say 6 mo the later my penis sensation was still low like blow jobs didn’t really feel that good but my sex drive was way higher than before hormones. They made me kinky and horny and ended up going some bondage shit with my girlfriend. I know this is a lot of info ahahaha but it just goes to show that there is light at the end of the tunnel in terms of regaining sex life. Now I’d say on hormones my sex life was %50 recovered but the problem being is I don’t think it was sustainable, even guys without PFS seem to lose their sex drive on trt after years. So I decided to come off after 8 months and having lots of sex (just not enjoying it as much as before Accutane and orgasms weren’t as good) but it was liveable. I have been off for 10 weeks now and am going to try to recover naturally. If all fails two years from no2 I will hop back on hormones. Anyways have you seen the recoveries of using propecia to cure Accutane sexual sides? I’m very interested and it seems to make sense that this drug got us in the mess it’s gonna take another drug to cure it, our body’s won’t just snap back. My plan is to use CDsnuts protocol for 6 months to be in a very good hormonal place before attempting the propecia protocol. there is a guy here doing it right now and if it works for him I will no doubt hop on it, I’m just sceptical. This place is great though such intelligent people on this forum without negativity. I wish I️ was smarter to understand this shit. I really think the cure lies beneath taking propecia and then boosting DHT to snap our body’s back? Idk anyone let me know if you can help us. I’m 19 and refuse to let Accutane make me asexual.

Thats interesting. I took Accutane around 14-15 years old. I'm now in my mid-twenties and still suffering from the sexual sides (pretty much no major improvements). I'm surprised exogenous hormones helped you though. I was convinced I had low testosterone so I did a short cycle of testosterone ethanate (test E) for about 10-12 weeks, worked up to a fairly high dose. But it made no difference to my sex drive/sexual dysfunction. In fact I can honestly say I noticed no real changes to my mind and I was consciously monitoring the way I felt whilst on test E. This is unusual as taking steroids usually has quite a profound impact on peoples mental states. It can make them hornier, more aggressive, feel more alpha, more confident etc. It didn't seem to have any of these effects on me.

The thing I can't quite figure out is, the androgen receptors in my skeletal muscles seem to work OK as I can build muscle and I gained a lot of strength whilst on exogenous testosterone. However it felt like the androgen receptors in my brain were switched off, as the increased androgen levels seemed to have little effect on my mind. Is there any explanation for how the AR receptors in my brain may have been differentially effected compared to my skeletal androgen receptors. Is there a higher concentration of retinoid receptors in the brain compared to muscle etc.?

Good luck on your next protocol and thanks for posting. I am also very interested how Finasteride effects people with post-accutane syndrome.

I also took accutane 40 mg for 8 months,in my 17 years, I had a lot of acne and oiliness and was very hyperactive sexual, since then when I took had the sexual problems, but nowadays I have others, I am always tired, extremely dry skin, anedonia / depersonalization, mine libido gave a little improvement over time and I can have sex, before I could not maintain an erection and not even 100%, but I can not get an erection with thoughts and no more morning erection, I work out since I was 15 and I'm kind of strong, I'm 20 now, before I started taking finasteride now, about 4 months ago I took 500mg of testosterone for 10 weeks and 90mg of oxandrolone (dht-derivative) for 6 weeks, the only difference being a slight increase in libido and muscles, I used to think that you could help me with my oil / libido problems, I also used marijuana for a long time because I saw reports of people who helped, I stopped using it for 1 month because it seems to have worsened my anhedonia / despersonalization

I've tried many, many things over the last 3 years, teas, supplements, vitamins, fasts, when I stayed a time about 1 year ago, ketogenic dieting and fasts for the first time, it seems that I've had an improvement on the issue of libido, before I could not maintain an erection and not have sex, after that I started to get (not close to being like before accutane, but I can), but I also seem to have entered anhedonia, I have no pleasure in anything else and I have the feeling of not being in my own body and living things all the time, I drank a lot of dandelion tea along with this diet too, but I tried this diet again recently and the teas and did not have any improvement, just I felt much weaker and more tired, I live alone and I have no help from my family, I was lucky to find a very good girlfriend who is living with me now, I work to support myself and it is very difficult to live like this and still have these problems ...that's why I am trying finasteride now, nothing that I do improves me, I have reached a point that I do not care much to risk, however I am confident that this will work when I stop taking it

Maybe it was the oxandrolone that gave the slight libido increase. It would be interesting to see if there is a difference in mental effects of taking a steroid such as testosterone versus taking DHT derivatives.

The effect of your cycle is similar to mine. Its unusual, as normally a cycle with 500mg of testosterone would be expected to result in a fairly big increase in libido. At one point I ran 600mg/week test ethanate, and there was no increase in libido.

One question, did you smoke marijuana before accutane? Another noticeable effect for me, was that I enjoyed smoking marijuana before accutane but no longer seem to enjoy it anymore. Could be a coincidence but the change seemed to correlate strongly with accutane use.

That was me half a year ago (From SSRIs though, not accutane). I saw massive improvements in these areas with crocus sativus extract. I still have some slight anhedonia, but nothing near as bad as it was. The depersonalization is mostly gone. Don't give up man!

I understand man. Its tough to deal with, but you have to fight on. The anhedonia and depersonalisation is likely related to depression. I have used things which have helped me significantly with anhedonia and depression side effects but its slightly controversial to mention as they are illegal.

I hope the Fin works too brother. But even if it doesn't I may have something else for you to try when you finish FIN cycle. I am going to start experimenting with something new next week. Which may help post-accutane sufferers which I don't think many people have tried before.

Awesome to hear from both of you. Mind elaborating on your idea bro? Sounds exciting. I’m praying every night that this fin theory is gonna work. Ireally think it’s going to after reading those recoveries.

About th steroid thing it is r ally strange you guys didn’t have the same benefit as me, I’m telling you I’m just as bad sexually as you guys are. 0 pleasur 0 connection to penis to thbe point wher it makes me asexual basically. When the steroids increased my libido so much iwas crying tears of joy to feel it again

I'm still researching the theory, reading/writing it up as speak. Will let you know sometime next week bro. Yes its strange, but may be related to your usage of DHT-related steroids versus my usage of straight testosterone. It's possible that both of our 5 alpha reductase activity is dysfunctional, so when I took steroids (testosterone ethanate), it didn't result in high levels of DHT. But because you used DHT-related steroids, your steroid use resulted in high levels of DHT and thus you gained some sexual benefits.

Could you tell me more details about your cycles? can you remember how long it took for libido to increase? and was it very noticeable or just slight improvement?

i was also cursed with the dreaded accutane at 14/15

altered/decreased penile sensation, inorgasmia (will take forever with sex to cum unless extremely aroused dopaminergic system/novel states)

keen to figure out some answers with all the others here
i am reluctant to use finasteride even short term...

What do you mean by extremely aroused dopaminergic system? is that when you've taken a dopamine agonist?

So it helped, and the benefits stuck once you stopped taking it? Can you remember how much you took and for how long?

Pretty sure I got some permanent benefits after getting hit with tane sides from taking gingko and ginseng - took them for about 3 months and I think it got morning erections back, but nothing beyond that. It's always hard to know for sure though, might have happened without taking either.

@Flynn Sadly, no. That's one thing I haven't been able to fix yet.

@tanedout I took it for almost half a year I think. Two capsules a day of this stuff: Bonusan Crocus Sativus Extract Capsules 60CP | voordelig online kopen | De Online Drogist (link is in dutch, not sure if this brand is sold outside the netherlands. Sorry about that). I'm not sure how much it stuck, and how much of it can be attributed to natural improvement over that time, but I'm definitely better than I was half a year ago.
