My Mom is scheduled for thyroid surgery

So my mom had some sort of abnormal growth in her thyroid and doctors are calling to have surgery on it and have it removed.

I'm no expert but often times I feel that western medicine does a lot of things wrong in the name of $$$

my mom doesn't really exercise or eat particularly healthy. neither does my dad. they don't eat completely terrible though. mostly dine in. but they don't really get it and think that mcdonalds is a perfectly fine choice. they are extremely difficult for me to persuade so I don't really try that hard.

is there anything anyone here knows about this to perhaps not have to do the surgery? I feel like removing a whole organ is extreme and stupid.

my initial thought is some sort of fast + improve diet /lifestyle. I think if that's the route though my mom will just choose the lazy western route. luckily they say it's not yet 'cancerous' or something like that and it was caught early I suppose. But I do think if something like this could manifest then it could manifest worse later on. She's in her early 50s

1st of all: get a second opinion man. EAR nose throat surgeon -- gotta ask them. And if they're crazy, I'd ask a second one as well. --Really depends on where it is, what kind of mutation. WHat the growth actually is, how it's treated usually. Someone who's practiced this 20 yrs or 10yrs will give a different response than some new person.

2nd of all: (taken from google. probably webmd, not sure):
Thyroid nodules are detected in about 6 percent of women and 1-2 percent of men; they occur 10 times as often in older individuals, but are usually not diagnosed. Any time a lump is discovered in thyroid tissue, the possibility of malignancy (cancer) must be considered.

Not quite the same. Know a guy, Had cancerous throat issue, got surgery. Was fine. ---his was obviously warranted I believe.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOWEVER, older generation, like my mom should try fasting and maybe even TEI rather than hypothyroid medicine. but that's unlikely to happen. HENCE, it's ok perhaps.

Perhaps doesn't need the lazy western route. All depends, needed appendix surgery because that was an emergency.

I met a former specialist (we drank, chilled), told my dad how the doc had told me all the patients dead and how he will never work at CAMH / hospitals again.
--Because some resident, nurse, whoever changed info on his charts, he came back and the patient was gone. Or dismissed. (serious psyche, inpatient cases). So he'd do a rotation, come back and at least 3 times his patients were killed. "I will never work at a hospital again".
--similar things have been said by 2 close relatives about hospitals in Toronto. I've seen the ignorance myself. I literally would only go to certain hospitals.

My dad went to hospital here, my brother and I agreed the hospital was useless --> My Dad didn't even see a specialist. we waited 8hrs and literally no one lives here so it shouldn't be that long. and only a resident was seeing and he didn't do proper, common, well known, borderline obvious tests.

LOTS of times... it's better to do things on one's own. IMPOSSIBLE without a lot of knowledge tho. Surgery should be in emergencies and when really really needed, mostly.
BUT Not too late either!!! Sometimes pre emptive is better.

Second opinion.
------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_------_-----

MAYBE - there's a way to remove just that part. Is it a nodule, goiter (enlarged gland) or something?
--I can ask around......

-NOT saying it is, but maybe it's better to remove part of it, if it is pre cancerous. IF it isn't, well I don't know. It may be bs. BUT to know for sure? No way we can.

--IF you guys live near uptown or North York, try seeing Dr. Laham -- at York U. DON'T see basically anyone else there.
---GOOD doctor. BAD clinic staff.

OR I guess maybe an endo. I don't particularly like endos. Gotta be a way to find out more. SOme endos are good of course (I'm guessing).

IF It was like a random emergency doc seeing your mom, get a second opinion for sure. Same if it was a family doc. Anyone really, but especially those 2. And especially in the GTA. Scans should be done.

Maybe internists also deal with this, some. As far as I can tell they mostly don't deal with hormones in CDA.

I'd fast or TEI. Convincing the prev generation to do that... would be pretty remarkable. But you never know.

If your mum thinks that McDonald's is a fine choise, do you think you can suggest to her to fast and to make some effeorts to save her health?

As someone who lost their gallbladder because it “wasn’t necessary” for reasons I’m sure that were related to other health issues, I would strongly advise to get her away from doing so. The medical industry really needs to move away from organ removal as a first line fix.

Jack, I had removed thyroid. From this moment my problem starts. Your mom could have narrowed transverse sinus, jugular veins. And if someone have this problem, CSF drainage is supported by thyroid veins, which drainage csf to brachiocephalic trunk ! So end effect of thyroid surgery could be problem with drainage of CSF, so say hello from empty sella syndrome ( BIG hormonal changes shit) to big headache and even MS.
Look at mechanism of MS.

I tried talking to her again. she's scheduled to do it in March. Maybe if we do something that could shrink it before it's retested so it won't be necessary?

I don't think I'll be able to persuade her and rest of my family to do anything. It seems more they just want me to give confidence and emotional support even though I don't agree with the most of what western medicine does.

They always use one anecdotal story of an inlaw of mine twin sisters one went natural route the other western medicine and the western medicine one survived but that could be any natural method like homeopathy which is often bullshit.

at least I tried
