Religion = Magical Thinking?

Do you believe God is real or do you think religion is magical thinking?

A lot of times I see people who are religious they have so many assumptions, ignorance, etc. and a lot of them are not even good human beings. But by the virtue of being religious they believe apparently that is enough and they use it as a sort of being part of a group/community to fight others. E.g. choosing a soccer team and going in discussion with each other. Perhaps out of boredom.

Just look at the middle East. But it happened here in Europe too of course.

Sometimes it seems to me people go to religion because they don't have the energy or capability (lack of energy and maybe IQ) to understand how the world works and they just think "OK this explaination is good to me". And also it's a way to virtue signal to the world you are a decent person eventhough this is often not the case. They are so far away from what Jesus Christ for example was (from what you read in the bible). It's like two different species.

That being said it's hard to explain why we as humans exist the way we do since we stand out a lot from other animal species especially our capability to build and build tools. So I understand people go to God as an explaination. Since there's also a lot of mathematics underneath the surface how things function. Which could explain that we are made in the image of God/a creator.

I like to believe there’s an afterlife and higher powers.

But I think people who revolve their lives around it are wasting time. Wasting time on something we don’t know is real or not. Cuz we don’t.

The wars and hate religion causes too. It’s horrible.

I think it’s best to live your life the way most religions propose “treat others the way you’d like to be treated.” And that’s that.

Just go live your life be a good person. If there’s an amazing afterlife as they say. They can’t keep you out if you go live that way the best you can.

God is 100% real, I was atheist for most of my life so religion and god seemed made up and stupid and unbelievable to me, I then started mineral balancing then I felt a strong to connection to god for the first time without even seeking it and many others also had the same experience on mineral balancing programmes, as the toxic metals stop us from being able to connect with or feel god.

And this was the main reason why I used to be an atheist, I was always too toxic to feel any connection to god. If you can't feel any connection to god then it's gonna seem like made up crap.

Sin also separates us from god, so if you are stuck in a cycle of sin then you are also not going to experience gods presence. When I was going through periods of sin like gambling and watching pornography I would suddenly stop feeling any connection to god when I did those things, likewise when I ate lots of junk food and sugar I would suddenly not feel any connection to god at all.

The bible says "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart" this is also very true, if you start going to church, praying, reading the bible, repenting you will start to experience god and the holy spirit for yourself. But from an outsiders perspective this stuff might sound silly until you've tried it and experienced it for yourself.

Fasting is also a great way to get closer to god, try fasting for 2-3 days then go inside and an old church, or try praying to god when you're fasting.

Definitely not wasting their time lol. I'd say the people who are going to nightclubs and getting drunk and chasing girls for one night stands thinking that is "fun", that kind of lifestyle doesn't lead to any fulfilment at all.

Sure.

I’d rather live for me though.

I’d rather be on a mountain skiing or a golf course. Or at the beach. Than at a church.

Once I healed in late 2010s I left the partying behind. Getting drunk all the time behind. Found 1 girl. And lived the way I wanted to live on my weekends/ days off after working or commuting to work 55 hours in the week.

I enjoyed whatever gifts whatever higher power is out there. And I’m not arguing there is a god an Allah a Moses or whatever is out there. I really could care less while I’m here on earth. Just act good be good.

For you saying there’s 100% a god/ Jesus…

What do you say to a devout Muslim? Who says there’s 100% an Allah / Muhammad. They’re wrong? They’re bad people for not following Jesus/ god?

Like it’s just all so silly. There’s a bunch of different religions. Who knows what actually happened for this world to begin.

Just enjoy it while you’re here, chase health then money when heathy so you can support people close to you like a significant other and if you have kids. And enjoy life the best you can.

That’s how I see things.

Not telling you to do that. If you’re really into what you’re doing with god stuff sure. If it makes your life better then go with it.

Allah is pretty much God, same thing. But people believe different stuff as of what they should follow as a religious person.

I don't believe in God right now I can honestly tell you. I live very clean for years. Also did fasting, etc. all the religious stuff. Never watch porn, no casual sex etc. I lived like a monk pretty much. I also grew up religious on one half of family and other atheists. A lot of the religious people were very bad people and they used religion to comfort themselves from their own evil within. Not wanting to accept that they are evil and unhealthy humans.

These experiences made me less religious. I started to see most people are hormone driven just like animals but with a sort of intelligence layer around it to justify their behaviors. That's what I started to see. I started to see that life is very simple actually and not so magical. But our intelligence want to make things complicated and especially if life is bad the brain will start to imagine things to deal with hardship. Our brain and intelligence is what cause the cognitive dissonance. And the higher IQ you are the more the brain is able to complicate things.

Not saying this is wrong, it's what keeps some people alive. But religion is an extension of that it seems to me.

Maybe I am wrong and I will see this in the future.

Thanks for your input guys.

It is simple, but hard to swallow. You can be religious person. And Your religion can allow You to do harm to other human, to steal other goods, or make him slave. As far as I see doctrines of diffrent religions only catholicism does not allow you to treat other human like that. I know that catholics behave also bad, but Is a matter of scale.
For example check what happened to south american indians. And see what happened with north american indians
See what mean goiym in judaism.
I mean every religion execpt catholicism is allowing You to steal and harm other person. In 19 th century protestant capitalists exploited people so much that communism spread very quick, and then Leon XIII public Rerum Novarum which blame capitalism and communism at the same time

A lot of religions like christianity and islam are based on judaism or at least have a lot in common. Some people call christianity - judaism for the goyim. Especially people who are into old european religions and atheists.

Those people see the blindness to race by abrahamic religions as bad - that the world is of everybody because it can cause further progression into multiculturism/globalism. They see it as a self sacrifice religion which goes against the nature of humanity.

That being said I personally like the idea of helping the weak and trying to be good to each other. Because when I was down this was also done to me by some people. Including here on Hackstasis a lot of people who supported each other. I think that was beautiful. Even if it didn't fix you the fact that people came together and stuck out a hand to each other made me believe that at least a portion of humans are good.

I also saw a bunch if people who treated me very badly during that time. It's easy to crap on people who have it harder/worse than you but useless and petty in my opinion.

But do we need religion for that? I grew up catholic (50% of my family is religious) but also with the opposite. My grandfather after he went to war said he did not believe in religion anymore. And I hear that from a lot of people who went through bad trauma and war with PTSD. They see the brutality of humans and question if there is a God because of it.

I believe Jesus is God. I am absolutely sure about that.

I grew up in a christian home, but from a young age I thought that church was lame and stupid and that the Bible was pure fiction. As I grew older, I got involved into New Age Spirituality (meditation, chakra alignment, astral projection etc.) but then got more seriously into Buddhism after that. In a matter of months pure darkness came into my heart, spirit and mind. I developed derealization, depersonalization, depression, extreme anxiety and panic, became hateful of my parents and humans in general, even though I tried to convince myself to love everybody. I often had very dark and diabolical nightmares. At night, I was being pulled down on my bed, I saw shadows and eyes in my home at night, I often woke up around 2-3 am. Then one day I had a supernatural encounter with the Lord Jesus, where he pulled me out of one of my worst nightmares, where I just screamed the name Jesus out of desperation. At that moment, pure light and warmth came over me and comfortably took me away from this hell. I woke up in total peace. And shortly afterward I got baptized and became a follower of Christ.

It's not an easy journey. After my conversion, I sometimes felt far, far away from God, sometimes for months on end. And in my case, it was always that way, because I was consciously living in a state of sin. With that came a hardened and unrepentant heart towards God. God always draws near to us, is always gracious, always there for you. He is always waiting for each one of us to call on Him and to ask for His forgiveness. That's something that God loves to do. Read the story of the Prodigal Son! (Bible Gateway passage: Luke 15:11-32 - New International Version)

But sin separates us from God and his presence. I like to view my relationship with God similar to a relationship with a wife/husband. If you are married and willfully do something that deeply offends and hurts the other person, then you expect to experience some sort of separation from this person, esp. if you are unwilling to admit that what you did was wrong and evil and needs forgiveness. And God is a person, and he is offended by sin, as He is perfectly Holy and Just.

To repent means sincere turning away from sin and turning towards God, involving a change of heart, mind, and actions. It signifies a willingness to acknowledge wrongdoing, express remorse, and make amends. This includes turning away from sinful behaviors and embracing a life that honors God.

After second vatican synod catholicism is in even bigger problems it used to have. Catholic trafitionalism was more egalitarian. It was religion for womens and males. Now is really soft, it is based more on praying than deeds, and is religion for womans. We call it protestantization of catholicism. But Catholic Dogma in the end is simple Ora et labora, no abortion, no eunthansia, human is not a master of everything. We can believe in predistination and say oh he is weak he have bad genes. But we can use ora et labora aka epigenetic attitude and do as much as we can to help/save someone

Btw. Is that true that catholicism in Netherlands is growing today?

Doubt it is growing bro lol. Most people are atheists here now. Very little religion. When I was a kid religion was still a thing but was already declining fast back then. It still exists but when I look at who comes out of the church it's mostly the elderly.

If you go back to far most people forcefully got converted in Europe to (Abrahamic) religion with violence too or exilation. So how religion came here was not through just the stories of Jesus. Maybe this is why people in (Western) Europe) now reverted back to "no religion" in Europe while in arabic/jewish/etc. countries a lot more religion and Abrahamic religion is much stronger there. Because it is from there.

Although now we have a lot of muslims here who are traditional... it's kind of a weird combination. Although most of those muslims don't even follow the rules of the religion correctly.

yes the Talmud does dehumanise people who are not of that religion. But I think dehumanisation in war is part of it. Just look at other wars. But with religion you might justify it as something that's acceptable or "by the will of God". So that might be the danger. And that's exactly why I made the thread too is that religion is almost magical thinking. It can be used as a coping mechanism or a justification for insanity.
