Testosterone decreases brain 5AR1 and lowers allopregnenolone.

I also want to add that I've had days where I felt 100% completed cured. Sex drive good and mental clarity and happiness 100%. There are some specific days I remember...

The latest ones was where I would take about 15 grams of Glycine before bed. It would give me shitty sleep but I would feel so good the next day like my brain was firing on all cylinders. I also would have beef liver and some beef fat for breakfast. I'm an idiot though and always change my routine.

@MCurtone a lot of people had recoveries from GHB it acts on GABA B receptor, not gaba a

Do you have high or low DHT , and cortisol?

I've only ever seen 2 or 3...I don't count myself as cured but it certainly helped...

Perhaps PFS and neurosteroids are because the body is in a chronically stressed state. Common issue with PFS people is they have zero ability to cope with stress. Another MAJOR common factor is most PFS suffers crash after a sudden stressful event...Same thing for me. After that it was a disaster.

Perhaps 5ar in the brain is so severely downregulated and STAYS down because we are in a vicious cycle of stress.

Stress = no neurosteroid production
Inflammation = lower neurosteroid production

Artificially-induced high levels of Blood T and DHT might cause a negative feedback loop. The brain thinks your body is now in a good situation, since blood hormones are high, so 5ar stays downregulated in the brain...but in reality, you are still in a stressed state, you just artificially raised blood hormones....

I think the key is to get out of a stressed state, and DO NOT take anything that will increase blood T/DHT.

Finasterde = lowers anti stress neurosteroids
Sudden stressful event = triggers body to stay in fight or flight, high adrenaline, cortisol, brain fog
neurosteroids stay low, unable to recover from stress
body is unable to calm down, cannot sleep, body stays in sympathetic dominant state
vicious cycle continues
Artifically raise T/DHT = symptoms get worse

Then once people start calming down....lowering inflammation....some cases people use GHB and KNOCK themselves into a PARASYMPATHETIC state...they start to recover. It makes sense to me. Using GABA agonists or things like GHB, is similar to getting a car jump when your battery dies. All you needed was a jump, a kickstart...

These are just my thoughts but I think its onto something

I don't know. I will need to get them tested. I plan on it soon. My T in 2018 was 700-900, cortisol seemed normal, I dont know my DHT though. I want to go for a full panel soon.

Where do you get your GHB? I've taken 1,4-butanediol, but I worry about any potential toxic effects

@MCurtone slow oxidizers , those with high T and DHT, never crash on finasteride.

they crash off finasteride.

fast oxidizers crash on finasteride, since finasteride turns off cortisol.

and when you come off, cortisol receptor is overexpressed.

this is why you get better on GHB which raises ACTH and cortisol and downregulates cortisol receptor over time.

this is why if you take steroids, you kill LH, and this lowers progesterone, and you feel like shit.

So for myself, I won't know exactly because I never did any of these tests. But I know I crashed while I was ON finasteride after several stressful events. I was also taking progesterone in the very beginning when I was taking finasteride. I took finasteride in October 2015, 1.25mg , along with 20-40mg of progesterone/day. I started them at the same time, because I was worried about too much estrogen. Eventually I stopped taking progesterone...I don't remember when...it could coincide with when I crashed after the stressful event. I came down with PFS around May 2016

When I started finasteride and progesterone together, I was actually SO happy and felt so good and had amazing mental health. But after the stressful events in a row it was all over. What are your thoughts @Helen , in detail if you don't mind.

Also, I think the benefits far outweigh the toxic risks. You can make your own GHB from GBL. You just need some sodium hydroxide...Can find recipes online

@MCurtone by increasing ACTH. GHB and baclofen increase pregnenolone progesterone cortisol entrance into the brain.

@MCurtone im currently researching fasoracetam as it’s the gaba b antagonist and will up regulate those receptors. Might be another option over GhB

@Helen based on what you said earlier...please tell me if I am correct..

I am a fast oxidizer, as I crashed ON finasteride, which means I have no cortisol? Then my Cortisol receptor is over expressed? So GHB is increasing my cortisol, and causing the receptor to downregulate? That's why I slowly feel better? If that's true why don't I just drink lots of coffee? Before I could not handle any stress...and after increasing my cortisol I can handle stress? I am not an expert but please explain if you can, I am curious.

What does cortisol do exactly to make me feel better?

ACTH increases the whole axis.

Can't say, it's a highly illegal substance. If you really want it you can find it.

Yeah, I've thought about making my own GHB from GBL, but even buying GBL can bring the DEA to your door. Regarding the toxicity concern, I was referring to 1,4-BDO, since it's metabolized into acetaldehyde. I never felt any toxicity issues when I've used it, but I'd feel better using GHB.

This is certainly a factor. The problem is it's so hard to test neurosteroids on live subjects. You're playing in the dark. This is what a lot of people from raypeat forums are talking about.

For myself, I have a libido, dick works fine, although my sex drive is not as high as it used to be, it could simply be because I've been with the same person for 3 years and its less exciting. When I am around other girls I can become very aroused.

My issues are seemingly cognitive, brain fog, energy issues, etc. I found overall that reducing inflammation helped a lot. Something regarding inflammation plays a role on neurosteroids and brain 5ar.

Taking 5a-dhp helped me quite a bit, but especially GHB. I'm not 100%, but I megadosed it to finally get good sleep and my stress response has been magnitudes better ever since. GHB is also known to increase allo and progesterone by 3-5 fold. Study below.

GABA(B) receptor-mediated increase of neurosteroids by gamma-hydroxybutyric acid. - PubMed - NCBI

For some reason 5ar in the brain is messed up from taking finasteride. I also did TRT and even took things like Dianabol. My sex drive was CRAZY high but my cognitive health was TERRIBLE. Zero focus, brain fog, no ability to think clear. Seems to be that the higher blood T and DHT is, the worse the neurosteroids are.

Things that help with brain 5ar are:

Caffeine
Glycine
GHB (potentially)
Anything that acts on the GABA A receptors really...

Currently my routine involves clearing the gut, cleaning the liver and nutrient density from raw animal products.

5a-dhp once in a while
GHB to sleep once in a while
Coffee enemas
MMS/ Chlorine Dioxide
Activated Charcoal
Raw Milk & Colostrum
Liver, etc.

I've made big improvments

your experiences is exactly similar to mine. Libido and sex drive etc is all pretty fine its mental stuff that is still remaining. Poor response to stress, some brain fog (at times worse than others etc.) and sleep, but sleep has improved much better over time since crash.

And I get the same exact response as to steroids. Libido goes up crazy and physical effects are there but mental sides increase way worse. The major thing that I tried that completely fixed mental sides temporarily (as in felt normal again) was RU486 but didnt last once stopping it. It is def cortisol related in the brain side for sure at least in my experience

low card diet and fasting also helped with mental sides
