Maybe the cigarettes aren't about the nicotine and maybe the coffee isn't about the caffeine.

Maybe people smoke cigarettes and drink coffee because of MAOI. I found this:

Human monoamine oxidase enzyme inhibition by coffee and beta-carbolines norharman and harman isolated from coffee. - PubMed - NCBI

It states that black coffee inhibits MAO. This would also explain why both caffeinated and decaf coffee are equally effective for certain health conditions (they provide the same benefits). It's not the caffeine, it's the MAOI.

Then there is this:
MAO Key Reason for Depression When Smokers Quit

Which states: "Levels of MAO-A in the prefrontal and anterior cingulate cortices increased by as much as 33% during withdrawal as compared with active smoking. Withdrawal-associated levels of MAO-A exceeded those of nonsmoking healthy controls by 25%."

So maybe this is why so many people drink black coffee and smoke cigarettes. Not the nicotine/caffeine, but for the MAOI.

I personally never knew about this and just assumed people did it because nicotine and caffeine are stimulants. Might not be the case after all..

EDIT: this would also mean all these people are probably slow oxidizers with low serotonin and low histamine levels..

I used to love cigarettes and coffee in the morning! It was the ultimate combo! I had it for most of 2017. I would get a crazy euphoric high from it! It felt the way life was supposed to feel. i kid you not!
