Both my tonsils are mildly swollen with some pretty prominent crypts on the left-hand one.
I get tonsil stones regularly. They usually 'develop' over the course of a few days. As they build up, I start to feel fatigued, with flu-like aching as if i was coming down with something. This can go completely if i can get the tonsil stones out (literally within minutes), but I find the success of actually getting them out is hit-and miss.
One strategy that has helped reduce formation slightly is to chew gum after every meal. I generally have a dry mouth (I also have dry eyes/skin generally) and I think the saliva that chewing gum stimulates helps reduce bacteria formation and raise PH after eating. Any advice on increasing saliva would be helpful.
I was just wondering if anyone here had any additional input on getting rid of them, or preventing the formation of tonsil stones in the first place? Ideally I'd like to resolve this issue completely, but i'm not sure if that's possible, short of getting a tonsillectomy!
