My Shure SE215's (https://www.amazon.com/Isolating-Ea...F8&qid=1519098983&sr=1-5&keywords=shure+se215) Mine were black and more expensive but I live in Canada and this was 2.5+ years ago. Not sure if they're the same... look very similar.
-In-ear monitors are a great way to go, just like monitor speakers in recording.

-Paired with my Sony NWZ-A17 MP3/Lossless audio player was a match made in heaven I<3 them both. Better than any inner earbud earphone I ever have tried.
Played music all night and day in my first apartment with the NWZ-A17, and always on the go with the combo.

-Audiotechnica, Bose, and Sony work well too... but depends on years of production. Seinhesser. Bang and Olufsen.
I was actually gonna make basically the same thread a few nites ago @TubZy, but decided against it (focusing on one issue at a time). Need music tho............

-if you can go up to $200-250 or so, you can get some Shures that last much longer.
-I know you said 100... I am looking into these, but may get something cheaper..
Shure’s SE535 earphones are a little bit perfect

-also great deal right now!! But I am not sure if they stack up to the classic and recent SE215's... "CL" just means clear. They should be pretty damn good unless amazon sells fake Shure's.
-https://www.amazon.com/Shure-SE215-CL-Isolating-Earphones-MicroDriver/product-reviews/B004PO10E2/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_btm?ie=UTF8&reviewerType=all_reviews&sortBy=recent#R31N5HAFJTG41S

-DRE, SONY and the like are often having an excess of BASS, as are most of today's "over-produced" music. SO it might be better to get something that is more neutral.
-Also I'm rough with things... if very careful they can last several years. I may rebuy the SE215's /upgrade and use a cheaper pair at the gym.

This one may be Japanese only (so buy in stores): https://www.amazon.com/Sony-NW-A17-...TF8&qid=1519160457&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+nwa17

Also these might be pretty good:
https://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Res...=UTF8&qid=1519416062&sr=8-6&keywords=etymotic

They used to make some awesome behind the head earphones that were like $999 dollars (out of my budget obv).

Or if you want something even crazier: The sweet sound of the 'world's most expensive' earphones

Just to point out my biggest fear with these headsets... my bluetooth headphone's batteries dying or losing the connection and my Backstreet Boys workout playlist starts blaring out my pocket...

Yeah I fear that when it's "too aggressive" with rap... or "too feminine" with some of the female vocals in trance. Also headphones disconnecting.
I went oldschool... using a FLAC/MP3 "walkman" (mp3 walkman then "highfi")... it's nice to have a separate device. I got some cheap Sony mp3 walkman's for like 79-129 back in the day, way better than my phone. I dislike bluetooth mostly, I like the wired and lineout or optic fibre cables at home.
Both have drawbacks, obv bluetooth is less annoying I don't get tangled as much... but dying batteries on a commute or in gym is very annoying.

Too many vocals annoys the shit outta' me. And too much going on at once with Rap instrumentals ruins the whole fucking thing. Its gotta' be a smooth - chaotic beat...not dramatic Disney style bizarre shit.

Yeah man - Classic NY east coast rap, 93-98 or so.
A lot of men really hate vocal trance. I like it, helps me think, and focus (usually at least).
I hate dubstep and the overproduced, generic stuff that's out everywhere now...
Big L, Wutang clan, classics... other coasts Outkast's first three albums, Eminem Infinite (that song), and a lot of other stuff.
Biggie, Jay-z (a genius regardless of whatever people think about him), and others. Reasonable Doubt was one of the best debuts ever.

I like music that makes me think. East Coast Rap and a High Level of Lyricism, more than just the beats and a catchy hook.
And certainly not whatever the hell's going on in rap right now, with little men dressing like women and mumbling a bunch of nonsense.

Some dubstep is OK. Some DeathStep is OK. Others are just too noisy. Its all about how the composer/s puts it together!

I have blown through four Dre UR beats already this year. I do like them for the type of music I listen too, but I think I about had it, not willing to blow another $100. Any other suggestions comparable?
urBeats3

bose quiet comfort are major upgrade from beats and excellent customer service. they replaced 3 of them for me free of charge due to 1 year warranty. (I have them on 10+ hours a day). sleep with them / gym / while working lol.

I keep them in the case if I'm not using them, apart from that nothing special. Lot of these guys are starting to make shit that breaks down after a year just go get people to replace them so i hope bose isnt doing that with the later models
