@zsoka This thing about whole food vs L ascorbic acid is nonsense. Think about it. Animals synthesise just ascorbic acid in the liver not "whole food vitamin C" lol.. This complex is for the plants. Of course you should eat vegetables and fruits to get phytonutrients etc.. But if you want take some effective doses sodium ascorbate is the best.. In your case 2000mg is nothing. Just take regular vit C it can't hurt you. Maybe the fillers in tablets can lol. That's why I am using pure powders. You can buy from amazon bulksupplements(pure powders) for example.. High doses for example in IV can be problematic because it can chelate things like copper etc.. But 1-10g doses it is no problem..

Vitamin C is not an antioxidant on its own. And taking high vitamin C is just the same as taking ozone. It is highly oxidative and creates huge number of free radicals. This is why it is used in cancer to create a lot of oxidative stress to kill the tumor. Vitamin C needs to be in reduced form , same goes for vitamin E. What reduces vitamin C in the body - glutathione.
Glutathione-ascorbate cycle - Wikipedia

So bottom line , if you want antioxidation from vitamin C , you wont get it. Hydrogen gas protects vitamin C. And allows it to be in reduced form. Vitaminc b1 b2 b3 also protect vitamin C , since those create NADPH which recycles glutathione , which keep vitamin C in an active form.

This is why people with NADPH deficiency get hemolysis from vitamin C. Their red blood cells and lipid membranes break . and they get anemia.

Vitamin C is good for creating oxidative stress. For some viruses or bacteria , infections

So it depends what you take vitamin C for. if to deplete glutathione and create oxidative stress , then it is one thing. IF for antioxidation then it needs to be taken with other things.

I guess it is very good for hidden viruses and all other things

what things? I have notice that all big vitamin C promoters have gray hair and glasses. Don't know why.. :D But ok I will take less like 2g 3x a day. Btw so just molecular hydrogen is really safe and actually antioxidant? Then B vitamins, amino acids, minerals in balance. Nothing more I can do right..

Molecular hydrogen is a selective antioxidant. It scavenges hydroxyl radical. hydroxyl radicals are usually created with the reaction from hydrogen peroxide. this is why if there are tons of hydroxyl radicals in the body , body will increases glutathione peroxidase and will be breaking down hydrogen peroxide. And it will close down SODs, and will have to close down sugar metabolism. Since body is using tons of glutathione to break down hydrogen peroxide. glutathione transferase goes down ( and you get liver problems from toxic stuff)

This is what happens in cancer. Because of hydroxyl radicals, body closes down sugar metabolism. And breaks down peroxide and all kinds of stuff starts growing.

Molecular hydrogen basically neutralizes hydroxyl radical into water. This tells the body that it can make peroxide right away. since there is no more hydroxyl radical. This lowers glutathione peroxidase activation. which is selenocysteine enzyme. SO there will be more selenocysteine available for D1 enzyme, which converts т4 Into т3. also this decreases tyrosine kinases ( Jak2) since usually tyrosine is used to activate glutathione and your thyroid goes UP. since now it has tyrosine to make thyroid hormones and it has selenocysteine to convert it to the active form. And sugar metabolism goes up.

So yes I would say molecular hydrogen is an amazing antioxidant. Which does not touch oxidation. It actually increases oxidative power of the body , It increases sugar metabolism. It does that by getting rid of hydroxyl radical.

But when you take just T3 , body will always fight it very hard. Since T3 will create hydroxyl radicals by increases hydrogen peroxide.

This is why if you are toxic in free metals, and if you take t3, you get hairloss. Since hydroxyl radical is killing protein structures

Ok good info thx.. Btw if there is a lot of ROS. Ascorbate is used up rapidly?

Isnt it what you describe regarding GPx that happens in the cytosol where the proteins are before go into mito. So molecular hydrogen then is able to selectively affect the cytosol in positive way. But Hydroxyl radicals (ex. Hydrogen peroxide) is degraded by enzymes like CAT that is part of the peroxisomes. So that means molecular hydrogen should be able to affect the status of the peroxisomes including the peroxides degrading one as well !?

That is just too good to be true to believe it :)

If that is true then the pressure on the glutathione recycling should fall down after all, that means the enzymes above that step arent taxed so much any more, which is good thing.

That is exactly what happens. All antioxidant enzymes go up. since they are simply not used much. But oxidation actually goes up huge also. SO hydrogen increases oxydation and antioxidation at the same time.

I still don't know if hydrogen increases antioxidant enzymes indirectly by reducing ROS? Like the body can increase oxidation by antioxidants due to reduced ROS by hydrogen? :D I guess nobody don't know at this point.. How exactly hydrogen works heh..

You probably need more Vitamin D [1] and Magnesium [2].
Histamine's main problems come from its interaction with inflammatory factors...
Most of this is mediated by Histamine H4-receptors [3], although H1 plays a facilitating role as well [4].
SSRI's probably depleted your Vitamin D levels and, given they do indeed impact Histamine as a "crucial" mechanism, my guess would be
that...you have.
1.) Desensitized serotonin "autoreceptors" leading to "enhanced" central serotonin which then is activating 5-HT4-serotonin receptors to release Brain and body histamine.
2.) That you have, in addition, an inflammatory response caused by withdrawal from the SSRI, which of course leads to over-excitation and TNF-a excess.

Increasing vitamin D when a person already has a histamine problem is the opposite of what you need. That will increase calcium, and histamine is released via calcium exchange mechanism. You have to chelate calcium first to control histamine, and then Vitamin D levels will naturally raise on their own with sun exposure as calcium levels drop..

Nobody knows for sure, but if I had to put money on it I would say it works as gbold described. As oxidative stress increases in old age, T4/T3 typically tank as well - almost in a controlled manner. That's why TSH is essentially linear with age, a healthy old person will actually have a modestly high TSH to balance metabolism and antioxidant activity.

What about low vit D as regulatory mechanism of the body due to already high calcium? Low or high. It can be so misleading. Then you start taking it and you can do exact opposite what the body wants.. Just make sure that you have some sun exposure or if you really need to take vit D3 due to zero sun. Then don't take like 10 000 iu a day.. 2 000 iu is plenty.. Same with calcium. Ray Peat recommendations 2-5g are crazy.. But if you don't eat any good source of calcium and you have like 200mg a day then you probably should supplement to have at least 700-1000mg a day total..

most people are calcium deficient(and deficient in many other minerals as well, especially sodium, potassium)... the idiotic recs by some famous authors and ''scientists'' of not consuming milk ''because only infants drink milk'' made people world wide calcium deficient...

calcium got over 10.000 functions in the body (vs. 3000 for magnesium).. i read the two books recommended on this page about calcium plus an extra one written by university professors/scientists(https://www.amazon.com/Calcium-Hunger-Behavioral-Biological-Regulation/dp/0521791707)...

and calcium is considered the MOST important mineral for the body and many of us are not consuming it DAILY, and many of us exercise A LOT(like we all are olympic athletes) because it is heavily promoted by the fitness industry; we become more calcium deficient and the body will pull calcium out from the bones(but blood tests will show normal calcium levels and also sodium, while in reality you are severely deficient in both)...

just like with sodium/salt will show ''normal'' on blood test when in reality you are severely deficient.. with exercise and/or heat, sodium, chloride and calcium are lost the most.. those metabolic acids created by exercise and junk food must be neutralised by calcium... just look around how many people have osteoporosis and bone problems... lack of salt/sodium and calcium...

scientists in the past were aware of the difference between raw and pasteurised/heated milk(in regards to nutrient/mineral absorption)... but they still recommended pasteurised milk if one could not get raw, to get in the body some very needed calcium...they recommended at least 500ml per day

people over 50 and pregnant/lactating women need at least 1200mg/day... people in general need 1000mg/day (much more if you exercise)...

raw milk and raw cheese and powdered eggshells and coral marine calcium(with a natural 2:1 ratio of Ca-Mg) are the best sources according to my research...

the bulgarians, where most centarians live FUNCTIONALLY , mostly eat whole grains(source of copper and manganese) and drink loads of raw sour milk(source of probiotics, good fats, protein, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and most nutrients) and eat vegetables(source of potassium), salt(source of sodium and chloride and other trace elements)

It's not that simple. Lots of people are over-saturated with calcium because intake levels are relatively high in children and youth in North America, and even in many adults. Lots of people have hard water where they live too, further increasing their intake. Calcium retention mechanisms also do a great job of minimizing excretion of calcium and maximizing absorption, so it's compounded by this issue - this is what PTH and Vitamin D do. The fact is if you play sports and consume a modest amount of calcium and sodium, your bone retention of calcium will be more than sufficient - I worked in a bone lab where we studied a lot of populations, including athletes, and the vast majority had no issues with mineralization.

Oversaturating with calcium will just keep vitamin D levels artificially suppressed. We need vitamin D for keratin synthesis, antigen recognition and response, monocyte differentiation, regulating parathyroid function, and controlling t-cell function. If you have high calcium intake and then supplement with vitamin D, you'll just see an overcalcification of tissues, and supplementing with Vitamin K2 will only go so far to fix this - if the person's bone levels of calcium are already very high, there's nowhere for that calcium to go but into other tissues.

I don't know but calcium in tap water is good form of calcium or it will end up just as tartar on teeth for example? + low stomach acid = very bad calcium absorption, then when you add dairy free diet. There is no chance that person can have more like 400mg of calcium a day.. I think this is one of the reasons why my health turned into shit show. I was exercising like crazy(always full of lactic acid from very hard road biking etc..) and I had like 300mg of calcium a day. Maybe.. Diet of meat, eggs, starches, some vegetables and sugar of course to fuel my workouts.... Than I crashed and started taking huge amounts of magnesium(because everybody is deficient in magnesium right.. and don't take calcium it will kill you) My blood pressure was low, my blood vessels couldn't contract.. I never had anything broken, but my teeth were/are very sensitive and transparent..

read the books written by dr. barefoot: the calcium factor, and death by diet, and the other book called: calcium hunger...

blood levels can show normal levels of calcium and sodium when in fact you are severely low...

Yes, I'm aware of blood levels remaining steady - that's what the regulatory hormones do. What's your point? No one here is suggesting that blood levels are a comprehensive way of understanding calcium homeostasis.

Don't flippantly try and write off other's opinions by saying "go read these books". I've worked in bone labs and read tons of primary literature. I'm more than well read on this subject. Some people need more calcium, yes, some people need less. Let's not be overly reductionist about this.

Here's the key feature of most discussion on this website: Everyone is different, and needs different things. For some people, this will mean more calcium, for others, it will mean much less. I have two people I'm advising over PM right now, and I rec them calcium/D/K2, but I have a few more people who I'm rec'ing to do the exact opposite. We are all individuals who need different things.

"We are all individuals who need different things."
I agree, but it is safe to say that like 800-1000mg of calcium a day is ok for most people? Especially active people? I am not talking about some crazy disbalance what need to be corrected by low calcium intake for a while. I am talking about diet recommendation for average people.. RDA seems reasonable in this case to me.. Now when I look back. When I was listening all those people who recommend magnesium like it is miracle, like you can't have too much magnesium and avoid calcium, because it will harden your arteries etc.. It is madness..

@zsoka This dr. Barefoot is exactly like other "crazy" people who are focusing on ONE element and they all talking about like we are all deficient in that element. Like we need crazy amounts of it and like it will cure all diseases etc.. Everything needs to be in balance. Everything in excess can be dangerous or deadly. Like water or oxygen for example.. It is definitely interesting and it makes sense that we need a good amount of calcium to buffer all kinds of stuff and for our bones, teeth and other functions in the body. But you can't say that calcium is more important than amino acids for example or other minerals etc.. It's just silly to concentrate only on one element like this dr. does.. Look at Levy for example. He is vit C maniac and he has a book dead by calcium.. :D Same mindset.. They can shake hands.
