I know iron and especially iron pills can be bad.

I just wondered as its the one thing Im missing from TEI protocol. And Im not about just getting iron with food. Otherwise nobody would need to follow any supplement protocol. You can get anything from food if your body is capable and in the right "state".
I just think every piece of the protocol has its tasks. And maybe TEI suggest Iron because of other things from the protocol like high dose of Manganese or just for the right proportions.

And Im sure there are cases where iron even with pills can help.

If you want to try some iron you can get those liquid sachets.
They are called Ferrotone / Spatone. Sourced from some mineral water in Wales, UK.
There are sold all over Europe.
Very gentle form of iron and the dose is not insane. It is mixed with Vitamin C and apple juice.

Yeah, but TEI doesn't know you have ulcerative collitis. You can try the iron supplement if you want, I'm not in the camp that iron pills are always 100% awful, they have their uses. But in your case you just have to be careful. There are extremely mixed results from people with UC who take oral iron supps. Some people can tolerate it just fine, other people experience severe diarrhea or constipation and blood in the stool - and mileage varies depending on the type and brand. If you could get IV iron, that would be much safer.

The reason why I recommended iron through red meat is because the absorption rates of heme iron are much higher than free iron, meaning less of it will make it to your colon/rectum. Adding vitamin C to it could help as well (a proportion of any meat also contains nonheme iron, which the vitamin C will help with). If you are still taking HCl that will further enhance the iron uptake.

Are you still taking HCl? Did TEI suggest that? Because that alone can correct iron deficiency anemia over time with a diet modestly rich in iron.

Yes still taking as TEI suggested.

I guess I will keep it at vit c and HCl only for now. Maybe add some 1/4 iron pill from time to time. Its lactoferrin 200mg + iron 20mg. So 5mg iron.

I think TEI suggests Iron bc I use a lot of iron antagonists like zinc, manganese, b6 + have high copper. But yes, they dont know about UC.

I think 1/4 pill sounds like a very safe start. Just take it within an hour of the HCl to maximize absorption and maybe eat an orange, lime juice, lemon water, or something containing vitamin C around that time. And obviously take it at a different time of day than zn/mn - their inhibitory effects on iron are mostly on intestinal absorption.

This girl has UC since 7 years old with really little flare ups, gets copper IUD, has big flare and has to go to surgery to remove the colon.
I guess Copper IUD is pretty shit for women.

A friend of mine suffers from this. I recommended she take herbs and completely change her diet. It worked for a while as long as she was disciplined.

She was recently in the hospital because she had a bad attack of inflammation. They kept telling her that her colon (i think) is in such bad shape that she needs to take "Remicade" or she'll surely have her colon removed in the future.

Among the side effects is cancer...I told her not to take it. She didn't know if she would take it out of fear and to rid herself of pain and because the doctor was pushing it on her.

She contacted me a few days ago after doing research and only found negative experiences of people taking the drug Remicade. Most victims got cancer.

My friend won't be taking any medication. She's sticking to diet and herbs.

Did 2 weeks of daily ~3.5g Sodium Thiosulfate, but cant say nothing good or bad about it. Did not change or notice anything really.
Got sick for the last 2 weeks as well, but dont think it came from sts.

Waiting for my hairtest result right now.

Anybody see this? Joe Rogan interviewing Georges St-Pierre (One of the best fighters ever), and from the very beginning of the podcast they talk about how he got UC and fixed it. I thought it was interesting that he developed UC while going through a stressful training camp and eating constantly throughout the day...I developed it in the exact same way.

He fixed it with just intermittent fasting.

Just read, that sulfasalazine inhibits Dihydrofolate reductase and therefore does not allow for 5MTHF. Could be another reason besides low histidine, for low methylation.
So not just low folate but bad conversion as well.
But probably better while in flare and not enough cortisol.

YOu see another possibilty is that if you are low on FAD. then tetra folate cant convert into methyl folate. And you might have too much tetra folate which lowers your histidine. And FAD will only be made when your thyroid and metabolism is high. Fad is selenium dependant.

@Helen
Yeah, but I think my metabolism improved as my potassium got a lot higher on my last hairtest.

And my copper dump problems are improving as my copper leves get lower.

But there is still the sodium level which is pretty low. And even with high levels of copper 3months ago, increasing sodium (with licorice etc), stopped all copper dumps.
So I think there are still some methylation problems.
And I dont want to stay with high potassium low sodium levels for too long. ..

You are right.

Azathioprine is a pro-drug and is first activated itself by glutathione, so it will deplete glutathione. Which obviously isn't good in the long run. It's second round of methylation is done by TMPT which is itself methylated by SAMe, interfering with methylation. So you should see SAMe depletion.

It's anti DNA/RNA mechanisms are supposed to be specific to white blood cells and therefore less immune activation, but I am unsure of it's actual specificity. I have my doubts.

But yeah, good in the short run. If you want WBC suppression though, you can just fast. Fasting should theoretically be as effective in controlling a flare up as azathioprine.

So thats probably the reason why I used to feel better going into a flare than being in remission.
And, I guess why, b12 and other metyhlation things used to make me flare pretty quick without potassium.

Low methylation as another reason for less copper use in addition to Krebs cycle (high pyruvate, lactate).

Are there any downsides to its xanthine oxidase inhibition?

So after experimenting a bit with b1 and methylfolate it seems that,
B1 improves digestion a lot, but too much makes me nauseous and kind of crashes that improved digestion.
Methylfolate (2.5mg) and methylation in gen. eliminate IBS.
B2 kind of chimes in with both.

+ I do supplement a lot of K as both soak up potassium.

I wonder if methylation leads to more copper released by tissues or smth.

Will do another hairtest soon, to see wheres copper at.
