I think increasing methylation that much in UC is not as good as it seems.
For copper detox yes. For UC I'm careful. Inflammation & methylation & fast metabolism hmm does not sound good in terms of keeping cancer as far as possible.

With enough butyrate as hdac inhibitor, maybe.
And with more butyrate, folate will probably go up too.

mattyb do you have any book suggestions in terms of mitochondria or UC ?

No book suggestions on mitochondria, sorry. Everything I have learned is your generic 100/200 level university biochem and o-chem, classes in advanced cell bio, and then reading tons of literature for ~7 years. If you have any questions about mito function, just ask and I will point you in the direction of appropriate literature. I will see if I can dig up a good basic overview of mitochondria to get you started. But its like 1AM right here now haha.

Increasing methylation is likely near the end in recovery. After you shut down fission and heal slowly. Once healed, you can focus on upregulating metabolism and stimulating methylation.

For IBS, you can try just histidine. May be it would be better than zinc carnosine.

And why do you suggest l histidine for IBS?
Or did you read my thread and suggest it for my persnal IBS problem? (copper & zinc utilisation)

Lack of HCL is the cause. High dose HCL with protein. and zinc finger protocol can help

histidine does not retain copper, it makes copper work.

I tried HCl before. (And still taking it) But for my IBS it did not help.

I still think my IBS is caused by a copper dump.

CuZnSOD requires Histidine, Iron, Molybdenum, Selenium, Zinc, Copper all require Histidine to function.

Histidine forms CuZnSOD and MnFeSOD

Histidine is also required to produce Cysteine Dioxygenas.e

I think Histidine can be good for excess copper as well as carnosine is.
Histidine is able to form five complexes with copper. This is through Hisidine anion (L-) and the Zwitterion (HL+-) allowing it to either freely exchange through albumin or both shuttle bio-available copper around the body to necessary locations and to complex free copper to bring it out of the body, this function is presently unknown, bypassing the need on ceruloplasmin, reducing the load to either allow and to heal and regenerate, or to be used in binding up other heavy metals. These complexes are CuL+, CuHL++, CuL2, CuHL2+ and Cu(HL)2++, these are dependent on blood pH."

histidine is needed for stomach acid release. And it is needed for zinc finger. So if people ever take steroids.
They cause alkalosis and their stomach acid goes down from lack of potassium and chloride, or from lack of sodium.
Histidine cant be made de novo. So big problem since your antioxidant, cortisol steroid, everything just falls apart and stomach acid secretion . and sex drive. and you can get eczema

Histidine is vital for nerve cells since it is needed to help maintain the myelin sheath, which protects your nerve cells.

The myelin sheath also makes it possible for electrical messages to be sent from the brain to your nerves. If you have a histidine deficiency, then your nerves won’t be able to relay messages properly.

And this is fixed with just supplementing histidine?

In 500mg carnosine is probably 50% histidine right?

Histidine is tricky in inflammatory diseases like IBD. Histamine is already upregulated in many people with these problems. Jamming more histidine into things can make it worse without first balancing and shutting down mast cell proliferation first. Main issue is closing the shunt of histidine to mast cells first, then histidine can start being used properly again. That shunt won't close as long as their is inflammation going on - mast cells will stick around and keep doing their thing.

Histidine decarboxylase is dependent on lysine/tyrosine. Lysine can cause mast cell activity to increase, so it is good to first starve the mast cells of this. IMO this is another reason why fasting is a good choice, because getting sufficient protein with low lysine intake is probably not possible without supping specific amino acids.

Histidine will lower any hives that you have by making your histamine receptors less. That is a FACT

When you have high histamine receptors, then any food with histamine will cause the reaction, If you have high histamine levels and low histamine receptors, food will not matter to you. but you can have symptoms of histamine overload like anxiety

I had IBS. took carnosine for a week. And it never got back

Of course there could be cases where there is something else going there, like b6 deficiency or zinc.

In any case, it is worth a shot

Okay, if that is a fact I have never seen it. Can you provide some research that points in that direction?

How can high stool histamine levels be interpreted?

& how did you dose carnosine ?

I remember I was trying some treatments for my lymphoma. And after one of them I started to get this IBS after a month of stopping the treatment. It was terrrible. Anything that I ate it felt like raw intestine, any food like eggs, citrus, was just CRAZY reaction for weeks.

I took from 1 to 3 gramms of carnosine. I remember. 3 was too much. I had copper come out from the liver and brain and I had copper hands. And that IBS was and never came back again.

Matty, just open amazon reviews, there are gazzillion of people using it for hives.

I get hives from time to time too. I thought that would be because of my high histamine levels in stool I tested.

What are copper hands?

Do you think that IBS disappeared because of the excreted copper / lowered excess copper or because of the receptors?

I had copper coming out of my skin. it was the weirdest scene. Hands looks coppery with metal on them.

I have no idea, may be it wont work for you and you will need to try the route that Matty suggested. But it worked for me for sure.

One of the reviews I found.

I have posted about this several times...taking histidine literally gave me my life back. I still have to take it every day to keep down the allergic responses (food, pollen, chemicals, etc) but the amount I take varies according to my total load.

The two brands I prefer are Montiff and Jo-Mar. You can find both on the internet. If you take histidine you do need about 15-20mg zinc for every 500mg of histidine.

Eddie, while high histamine can be a problem, especially in certain types of mental illness, there's a paradoxical effect in that the higher your blood levels of histidine, the slower the mast cells are to release histamines. For the conversion to take place it also requires zinc and B6, so for that reason I suggest that people keep their zinc levels adequate, but not high and avoid the histidine supplements that include B6 unless they are trying to use it to increase histamines (this is another topic, but it affects sexual function).

I have been using histidine for about 15 years now and even wrote a paper on it for my sports nutrition certification. It's an amazingly overlooked amino acid...many of my clients with IBS improved dramatically, too, since it decreases cytokine production in the intestines and increases calcium absorption which slows smooth muscle contraction.

histidine is needed for the detox for SODS. that is why taking cysteine, methionine , taking copper iron, chelation, can all cause histamine reactions since histidine goes down.

I took Beta alanine as pre workout 2 years ago. 5g almost every 2. day. Beta alanine lowers taurine by hypertaurinuria - loss of taurine in the urine. Taurine was the first thing to help me.

Maybe the other player is histidine.
So Taurine was missing to excrete copper.
+ And histidine is missing for stomach acid, therefore lowering bile even more
+ use of copper is lowered by low levels of histidine too.
+ high amounts of copper in pipes
+ low metabolism (UC) less use for copper
