Sadly my parents are visiting this Thursday, so I’ll have to break before then. No exceptions. They will litterally call my doctors and send me to a psych ward if they find out about this.
That sucks, break the fast then refeed and start a new one if you feel like you have the energy for it.
I dont know any people who did a 20+ day fast without doing short ones first to get the hang of it, so by the next one you should be able to go even longer.

Mate if you feel like you can keep going on by thursday I recommended you to stay on fast. Your parents know your life is shit without any current solution, they can handle you trying something out which might end up helping you.
Note that I am not saying it will work ( I have NO idea if it will, I am neutral on this topic) but if you stop now even though you don't have to and it doesn't end up working, you will be demotivated to go for longer fasts every new time you start and people have said its the longer ones that help.

Can someone give me an update on the progress of PAS and PFS here. Have any users reported much improvement?

I haven't been on this forum for around a year.

Thanks,

flynn

Hey guys, since Flynn promted us to respond i thought i'd give you an update.
Things have been going mixed for me. I started using dutasteride 0.15mg 4 months ago with great improvement in the side departments for the first three months.
Libido was raging, morning erections was back and i felt extremely virile and on top of the world.
Unfortunately i crashed again. Weirdly enough my libido is back at zero, but my erectile function is ok, meaning i can get a normal erection when i jerk off, only i don't feel like jerking of 99% of the time. I also feel a little depressed, but that could be due to irregular sleep and too much alcohol the last weeks.
I'm deliberating quitting dutasteride, but have made some improvements in the hair compartment so i'd rather keep on taking it.

The crash started when something extremely distressing in my private life happened, which made me quite depressed. My libido vanished abruptly and has never returned since. However, like i said, due to the holidays i've been drinking, doing a lot of drugs, quit working out and sleeping irregularly. Since all these things are related to lower libido, i'm now hoping it vanished due to the depressive episode and hasn't had the chance to recover because of the bad lifestyle.

After new years eve i will be focussing on living healthy and i'll keep you guys updated.

Good news! I haven't drunk since NYE, slept well and did a shit ton of mindfulness. I should've studied for a test but decided to skip the class for this year just to reduce stress. Guess what, my libido is slowly increasing day by day and i'm feeling at 70% percent again. Erectile function is fine. This means i get to keep my sex life and my hair so i'm totally stoked. Frankly i don't even care that i'm going to fail my test tomorrow because i can finally have an optimistic outlook on life again.

If i can give any tips on recovery and what worked for me - with or without finasteride - it's live healthily, reduce stress to the minimum and have a stable sleep rhythm. Truly believe you can recover because you can. Your expectations really are a self fulfilling prophecy. I think a lot of the sexual problems result from performance anxiety. This means anxiety about getting erections and getting turned on, even when you're alone. Taking 5mg cialis every day helped me with this initially and i could gradually wean off. Believe me, this took 3 fucking years. It's not an easy process and you will have periods where shit is going worse than before but keep at it. You can do it.

Because of fin? Fin cost me my hair but even if I got to keep it thanks to fin, fuck fin. I lost my sexual endurance and manly qualities like risk taking. It's not worth it for a beauty mark that's important to teenagers and something women don't care about in men as much as they want a strong horny guy.
This isn't a criticism I'm just asking, it always sounds strange to me when I hear of fans of fin who love the drug and have before and after photos where they not only kept but regrew hair because in my cause it made my body crash and rapidly lose hair and general health.

I didn't have all the info when I was prescribed it, actually I didn't have any info on what fin does to the body I didn't even know it was a hormonal medication but now that we know what you have to give up even if its just a small portion of yourself I don't know how you live with it. And if you have kids you're giving your kids birth defects so you can slow down face aging but age faster down the line unless you're planning on hgh and steroids to stay young then too.

So you actually improved taking dutasteride? How long did it take to start once you started taking it? Are you still taking it?

He is Post accutane, and suffered from the classic symptoms of PFS. Accutane fucked his sexual health and hair the same way fin fucked yours
As illogical as it sounds, two people made a full sexual sides recovery Post accutane using Finasteride. Dasjes tried to replicate this protocol with Dutasteride and seem to have good results. If the theory of Androgen receptor dysregulation being the root cause of this issue is the right one, then this protocol makes some sense. I still consider it dangerous with plenty of other protocols to try before considering it. To each his own

I agree with you on fin.
However let's keep in mind that millions of people took fin without any side effects ( Even though I'm sure it affected their system one way or another, and that there's people suffering from a light PFS, not being aware it comes from their finasteride usage)
Even Helen stated that used properly, finasteride could have benefits. Not sure if I agree as I don't have the knowledge to make such claim but what I'm trying to say is not everyone will lose hair and manly abilities on Fin. A combination of genetic and epigenetic settings make one vulnerable to this condition

Needless to say, I would never recommend fin, Acc, or SSRI to anyone ever. The risks outweigh the benefits

I don't know about that most protocols give barely noticeable improvements and doing basically nothing to alleviate the situation is dangerous because your body continues to pick up sides or you become suicidal. If you consider the risks involved in being stationary then you have nothing to lose and everything to gain it's not that dangerous. Sure taking Dut sounds dangerous as hell but at this point in my life I see it differently, I really wouldn't recommend having pfs longer than 2 years, do whatever it takes to find some progress while you are still strong enough to take those risks. Just consider that your body gets weaker and older every year of "pfs" so it's smarter to try something crazy the first year or two then to wait years and then risk a crash when you've deteriorated a lot and you won't be strong enough to brush it off.

@BC2018 Not sure if I understood your first sentence
Yeah I see your point but I tend to believe everyone's mileage may vary
How old are you? I'm entering my 4th year but feel much resilient and stronger than when I first crashed
I'd feel more confident to try a risky protocol now than say 3 years ago because even If It'd set me back, I now know how to recover to a baseline where life is livable whereas when I first crashed, feeling so bad, clueless, hopeless I'd be too afraid to do so with the chance of making things worse, if that was possible that is. Today I think I would respond better to any Hormonal protocols by being in a much more stable condition as well. But again, you would need to take into account your age, symptoms, time suffered, risks involved, to make a proper decision. And I would always rather slow and working protocols over fast but potentially damaging ones

Coping mechanisms is barely discussed on hackstasis but I think it's important in our condition too

Alright i'll clarify a bit more and tell my whole story in case you're interested.

I took accutane 40mg for 3 weeks when i just turned 18. I noticed my libido was extremely low and by the end of week 3 i couldn't even get it up when i tried to jerk off. I started researching and stumbled upon the forum "repairing the long-term damage from accutane" which freaked me out.
Then i things started to improve for two weeks but soon everything went downhill again. Sides were: No morning wood ever (every single day before accutane), libido at zero (to the point of feeling asexual) and i could only get 50% erections with heavy manual stimulation. This lasted for a long time.

Fast forward three years. I just turned 21 and decided it was enough. I did the following things and i strongly recommend you do as well if you don't already:
- I stopped smoking.
- Alcohol not more than 2 days a week and not more than 10 drinks per day .
- I limited illicit drug intake to once every two months.
- Strength training 4 days a week. Cardio twice a week.
- 200g of veggies every day and fruit every day.
- Try to cut back on the junk food, it seriously fucks up your insulin.
- Meditating 20 minutes a day. Every day.
- Have a stable sleep rhythm. 7-8 hours a day.
- Clean your got damn room, a messy room primes your brain to be lazy.
- Try to do your best at work/studies. Don't push yourself too hard, but succeeding in these areas is good for your mental health.
- Try to be outside for at least an hour a day. Working out outside is fine. Hanging in the park with your friends is also fine
- I got therapy for my mild depression (shit works, try it)
- Personally i think nofap is bullshit. Fapping once or maybe twice a week is fine. But try to do it without porn.

Now i know this shit costs discipline and hard work. But being physically and mentally healthy really is the basis of recovery. You really can't recover without.

No all this made me a way more healthy motherfucker with a way better i mindset than before. After doing this for 4 months my libido gradually increased and started fluctuating between 20% and 50%.
After 3 months of this i started topical finasteride. The systemic dose of topical fin is comparable to like 0.125 mg fin ed iirc (look up threads on hairlosstalk.com if you're interested). I also started takin cialis 5mg a day.
During the topical fin my libido started improving even further. I sometimes had morning wood again or good erections (without cialis). This prompted me to start dutasteride 0.15mg (keep in mind, this is an unusual low dosage), since i also have hereditary hairloss.
Now this is when shit started to take of. After one month on duta having a lower libido, my libido came back to a full 100%.
I was euphoric and hadn't been as happy since i was 18. That's my story. I don't know how much i can attribute to the dutasteride, all i know is i couldn't have recovered without feeling physically and mentally as healthy as i could be.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I hope you all recover.

Thanks for the detailed reply man. Did you have sensitivity or orgasm issues or just ED and low libido?

@Dasjes that's awesome to hear! So sounds like you are another recovery from taking finasteride? Maybe micro-dosing is the way to go

@cnb30 - you say you are doing a lot better now, do you think this could be down to you having done a cycle of fin?

he is still taking Dutasteride, so suppressing his DHT

low low dose of fin also helps PFS. for those with high DHT.

People take too much fin, that is why they crash . and have problems, if people took enough fin to put DHT into the middle of the range.

Their testosterone would work again libido and erections would be normal

But for hairloss people it is still bad, since you need to increases DHT breakdown by glucorinadation, and not decrease NADPH with fin.

these are 2 different things.

Interesting... I agree, if DHT is elevated then very low dose alpha reductase may help. I started Ginko (and I was thinking this mechanism.. about slightly inhibiting 5alpha reductase) 10 days ago and I am sweating normally now and libido is not great but better. I feel more calm and actually haven't been obsessively checking this board since starting it. So I think it's helped anxiety. It's too early to tell for sure but at this point my experience has been positive. As most probably have read, Ginko has been reported to helped post SSRI sexual dysfunction and I think a few with PFS. Anavar and other TRT may be more likely to help if DHT is low. I re tried Anavar a couple weeks ago but after 7 days of it I was doing so bad I stopped. A year ago I added one Avodart cap to minoxidil topical and did that for a couple days. I noticed an improvement but then may be worse. I know it's like playing with fire so I stopped. It's probably already been stated before but maybe the difference in recovery protocals is really if DHT is high or low.

Hey guys, I thought I would provide you with some updates.

Yeah taking Fin last year was a HUGE mistake and it has harmed me in a lot of ways. However, I have some good news. After fasting a few times this past fall, and doing a liver flush (I’m doing a second the Saturday after next). I’ve seen some improvement in the overall mental side of the sex drive issue. By this I mean that I have had reoccuring periods where I have mild sexual and romantic desires that are much higher than what I have experienced in a while. However, they tend to wax and wane, and in the last week or 2, they have been somewhat less common (possibly due to the fact that it has been a while since I fasted at all, and the effects from the first liver detox wear off after a couple weeks). I’ve also been doing a detox protocol as well (but this seems to have been somewhat less effective the past couple weeks as well).

I've also taken Abilify again today for the first time in awhile and am feeling rather well. I know the concerns with long term effects, but feel that it was a good idea for today. I have not been doing too well from an academic standpoint this term without it.
