Hadn’t stepped on the scale till this morning. Starting weight was 150lbs/69kg

Today, after 2 weeks of water fasting, i am down to 137lbs/62kg.

Looking pretty skinny especially my face/cheeks. Muscles look flat, which was to be expected.

I am gonna continue the fast the upcoming week and see where my weight is at next sunday. If it gets too low, i will stop fasting. I dont wanna go below 60kg, seems really low to me especially with my height since im pretty tall.

You will bounce back quickly on re-feed. I went from 195 to 150 in the 2months, and now at 165lbs(75Kg at 188cm), I am eating at maintenance calories, strength and muscle tone are coming back nicely.

Good to know, i am planning on getting down to 120-125. If my weight settles at 135lbs after the fast, that would be fine. Would like to put on some muscle mass after my fast so it would give me some room to bulk up a bit. My upperbody is very skinny, pretty much no fat on it whatsoever. Legs are ok, still a little too skinny for what i like.

That's nice you can give a good feedback!

@mattyb wondering, what would be the best magnesium supplement to take while fasting/when refeeding? I have magnesiumcitrate tabs at home 200mg each. What dose is enough? I was thinking 400mg while fasting and 600mg when i start eating again

Mg through the skin do not tempt you while fasting? Or do you want the laxative effect too?

Nina you are going
Instead of bringing cortisol down, I think I understood we make, by insisting, the body diminish cortisol receptors, to cope with the high levels created by the fast. The idea is more about what happens after the fast than during. When we resume eating, with less cortisol receptors, then we need less cortisol to do the job, so we make less.
So let me get this, you are saying while fasting when cortisol is high you don't want to bring it down otherwise the body won't diminish receptors.

I think that fasting actually upregulates cortisol receptors so it gets more sensitive and your body needs less during times of stress so your cortisol doesn’t go skyhigh.

Low-dose citrate is fine. MgCl is preferable as it can act as a source of Cl. I would start low with the doses during the fast, just try 200mg first. Maybe bump up to 400mg after the fast. Ideally though, you don't want to take any supplements after the fast and should get your nutrition from just foods.

I thought this too... But I have some dylexia... I have difficulties in understanding with no effort the words "upregulate" and "down-regulate"!

I think that fasting actually upregulates cortisol receptors so it gets more sensitive and your body needs less during times of stress so your cortisol doesn’t go skyhigh.

If fasting makes us do more cortisol, receptors numbers should go down? Or at the same time fasting makes us produce more cortisol, AND also make more receptors, to help? Then we have a lot of receptors, so the body is quiet, because it needs to do less cortisol in normal situations....
Is it this?

But when we eat and are not fasting... what makes us have not enough receptors and thus make too much cortisol?

Thanks, i’ll stick with 200mg during the fast. I like some extra magnesium, makes me sleep better so i take a bit extra when eating

Thanks for the explanation @Canari. @Nina I meant to say you are going great! with the fast. Asking are you resting up a lot or are you able to carry on normal everyday activities?

Yeah, I am the same. Adrenaline pushes you to do stuff while you are fasting. I swim like crazy during fasts.

Nina -- really proud of you . 18 days on just water? Holy smokes

It's funny you mention the desire to exercise. I get that after fasting for ~20 hours lol. Doesn't take me very long to feel that urge. By about 36-48 hours I'm buzzing and hyper-productive.
