Since refeeding i have been having issues with sleepiness after eating, puffy look/feeling and bad mood. Seems like some insulin issues.. weird.

Are you using HCl or mattyb's bitter greens/OO/malic acid? You could still have digestion issues(breaking down protein etc, to get proper energy) as it slowly returns to normal.

Not adding any salt anymore

I would try the bitter greens, olive oil and vinegar, first thing in morning away from first meal. Use malic acid instead of vinegar if you can find it.

And maybe test betaine HCl with meals.

Normal bowel movements?

Yeah everything is fine, just getting sleepy after meals and feeling puffy/bloated.

HCL, enzymes, electrolytes I would add in for a bit. I doubt your digestion is fully recovered after that long fast. Your electrolytes still aren't balanced given that you said a few days ago you can't stop eating salt. When I came off a fast which was much shorter than yours, the next 1-1.5 weeks I felt bloated and couldn't eat that much.

I am still convinced by my opinion that having rice or any carb during the beginning of refeeding is a mistake... This is enough for having insuline issues and also gut issues! Why say to not eat fruits and say yes to rice? This is all sugar. My advice and what worked well for me was having veg juices and then raw grated vegs, half/raw egg, fish and chicken... and of course a lot of greens, especially bitter, with salt. Olive oil starting slow, let time for your body to go back to producing hcl and the rest!

Your digestion is just not back online yet. This is why the refeed is so important, and carbohydrates and proteins need to be re-introduced very slowly because the body doesn't quite have the right enzymes to digest them yet. It's very similar to people coming off of a true ketogenic (low protein, zero carb) diet, they will often feel puffy, bloated, and sleepy after meals when they start eating normal again. The puffiness is just water retention.

Scale back the protein and carbs a little bit for now. Eat tons of cooked greens, drink fresh herbal teas (sage, rosemary, etc.), try out the morning salad I've rec'd in the past. Some veggies juices can be useful too. Pea shoots can be useful because they contain DAO. Those should help you to get in the minerals needed to establish enzymes that digest carbs and protein. Then start scaling up the carbs and protein together, but very slowly.

Generally you want to go in this order:
liquids/soups -> cooked plants -> raw plants -> cooked, easy to digest, starches -> slow roasted protein -> other carbs -> anything

Drink a lot of water now and try to balance that salt with other electrolytes.

@mattyb why do you insist on cooked vegs? Juices are raw, and when you get only raw, it digests super well IMO. Raw has more enzymes. The morning salad you tell about is raw. For me the difference is neat, and the only thing I noticed is that raw is not digested well when mixed with cooked stuff, especially carbs. When I removed carbs I could have the raw veggies, and they were very filling and nourishing, the difference was huge.

About pea shoots, is it the normal green garden pea? Do you just sprout them, and until what size?

Cooked veg because it's easier to digest the fibers, it gets rid of some anti-nutrients which aren't great post-fast (like oxalate), and we don't need the veg for the enzymes inside (at first) - we need the minerals they contain. Raw veggie juices are okay as well, but those juices can be hyponatremic (cause sodium loss) so you don't want too much post-fast because post-fast you're already low in sodium. Raw veggies require some gut bacteria to break down the fibers, so immediately after a long fast they aren't ideal because the body is low on gut bacteria, so it's better to introduce fibers that have been broken down through cooking first until more gut bacteria is established. After a few days of eating, it's perfectly fine to introduce some raw veggies in small amounts, and then work up to larger amounts as you transition into eating fruit, cooked starches, and some protein.

Pea shoots are just immature garden pea plants grown to about 3-6 inches and then cut before they grow more. I eat these guys raw all the time, I never cook them.

Do you grow your own? If so, where do you get them?

I took a pea shoot growing course a few weeks ago and the instructor said it's much cheaper to order the seeds online.

I buy mine from a local greenhouse that grows year-round. I haven't grown my own yet, I just got a new house last year and plan on starting the garden this year. I might try winter-growing them next year.

It is really strange that it does not correspond to my experience... I am bloated by cooked veggies. I indeed prefer low oxalate and oxalic vegs. I was feeling good with grated carrots and cucumber, and onion. True that I salt juices! Raw veggies too. About minerals, I do cook a lot of veggies, and then I filter the broth. I am bloated by cooked veggies.

You can use special sprouting grids, so that critters do not eat you delicious sprouts! It would be like some hydroponics... Mungo beans are done like this.

Been very busy with work and training almost every day.. Feeling pretty good, balanced my electrolytes getting around 4000mg potassium and any sodium from food. Taking 300mg magnesium at night. No more bloating, fatigue in the morning is gone, headaches are gone, muscle recovery is way up, mood is stable, acne on back is gone. Been doing IF, eating for 4 hours a day, fasting for 20. I skip breakfast and lunch and eat all my meals at night when i come home from doing everything i have to do. Works great for me.

How does IF work right after you exercise, you take any aminos etc?

No i don’t take any aminos. I exercise in a fasted state. Then during my feeding window I mainly eat chicken, low fat fish, beef for protein. Sometimes i take whey instead if i don’t feel like eating meat.
