@Goose12 you were 4 highs on the hairtest. Cortisol was not fixed at all. magnesium does increase 5AR since sodium is high and sodium is stopping 5AR metabolites. And if you increase 5AR, you simply retain more sodium and stop estrogen, since copper raises noradernaline. And noradrenaline goes down, when sodium is high.

cortisol lowers potassium and retains sodium. And when there is no potassium.

insulin goes down, and your NADPH production goes to zero.

This is why body has high iron and manganese on the hairtest, since there is no glucose phosphate in the cell, so no NADPH is being made. And 5AR simply does not work without NADPH. And 5AR and all enzyme where NADPH is a cofactor are IRON enzymes. and manganese.

And malic acid makes NADPH by a different mechanism not in pentose pathway. B1 also increases NADPH , this is why you felt good on that snap back after b1.

So it is either overexpressed AR which causes the shut down of 5AR and then this causes high cortisol since it can't break down into its metabolites.

or it is cortisol or gaba problems, which causes low potassium and insulin shut down, and zero NADPH, and no 5AR working.

Since don't forget cortisone to cortisol conversion is made with NADPH. So if there is too much cortisol, then NADPH is shut down.

SHBG just controls testosterone entrance into the CSF, and since testosterone is high already there. SHBG goes up.

that is why people actually feel better on things which raise SHBG like keto diet, or thyroid.

Libido will go up when estrogen will be allowed.

And estrogen is allowed when metabolism is fast.

In 4 highs chemistry, ella would crash people, since it would cause even lower potassium. And then you would need zinc for a while to raise progesterone and retain potassium back. This is why you crashed on licorice root. but I think it might have helped you overall .

also don't forget aldosterone is converted into its active metabolites which retain sodium by 5 alpha reductase.

So high sodium diet causes aldosterone to be converted into 5 beta metabolites which reduce sodium absorption, and low sodium diet causes aldosterone to be converted into 5AR reductase metabolites which retain sodium.

Thus the salt helps the hairloss by killing 5AR and this is why magnesium allows 5AR and lowers SHBG and causes hairloss.

Things that increased estrogen seemed to help the lost with labido. Like he shou Wu, and royal jelly.

Why do you think RU helped so much with my anxiety, insomnia, and digestion issues (not to a 100%)? I felt like RU really slowed my metabolism down and now tei has it better than normal.

Ella did crash me for a week when I was in between my first tei cycle. Luckily I bounced back.

So what is the answer for my situation? I know it's a very complicated issue. Because this is so complicated I think tei is the only answer right now.

I always thought it would be interesting to focus on lowering shbg and see what happens.

When you take ella, I guess it crashed your progesterone and potassium went way down. thus anxiety , same probably on licorice root.

Licorice root stops the break down of cortisol in the kidney, which increases sodium, and lowers potassium.

RU on the other hand, blocks cortisol, and actually might have increased your potassium levels. thus less anxiety.

what does high pottassium usually mean in hair test?

Me just rambling what pops in my head:

Lately I have been thinking about all of the things I have tried and what has helped and what hasn't. With what we have been talking about lately I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what has been keeping me in this state.

I think the two big culprits are SHBG and cortisol. My high cortisol gave me the symptoms of anxiety, digestive issues, chronic fatigue, brain fog, insomnia, ect.. Randro and ru got my cortisol levels about 90% normal, mostly ru. Tei did the hard part and got it the rest of the way to 100%.

SHBG was and is the hardest one to fix. Out of everything I tried the only thing that helped was high dose magnesium for a week, on a liver flush protocol. This was right after I crashed and at the time I boiled it down to the cleanse itself or the half of a water melon I was eating everyday. I tried to replicate both of those situations and nothing. During that brief recovery in sexual issues I had random erections, rock hard erections, and huge ejaculate. This was a huge jump from being completely impotent. I was taking at least 5 grams of magnesium a day.

Sorry to crash your post Goose but I thought I would chime in on the whole Shbg issue as I’d love to be able to resolve this too!

I have just had blood tests back confirming what I thought would still be the case. My SHBG is still very high. 70nmol/l.

I was feeling better after a short holiday in the sun. Call it a placebo or whatever but strong exposure to sun seems to boost me. I know it’s numerous factors going on there as everyone is better in the sunshine but it did make me wonder whether there was more to it. If I’m correct, vitamin D lowers shbg?

Anyway, my free T percentage is 1.3% so borderline. I worry for the long term carrying on at these levels. Saw some studies relating to raised shbg and prostate cancer which didn’t fill me with much enthusiasm!

My shbg has raised significantly since coming off TRT. *edit* Looking at my results though I will say that TEI has seemed to of balanced my hormones a little other than the shbg. My LH and FSH are now just above the middle range which upon research is optimal. After crashing they were very low for a long time.

Also my estrogen has raised. Like you Goose I feel better when estrogen is raised and it’s the highest it’s been naturally since crashing. I had high shbg and extremely low E2 for a year or two after crashing and I believe that was a huge factor in making me feel like death.

My next thoughts were to run R Andro to see if that would have any affect on SHBG but it looks like it didn’t in your case. Unsure what to do at this point other than get another hair test and keep plodding on.

If I was you I would just keep going with htma. This issue is so complicated that attacking it from one angle usually doesn't stick.

Most of what I read is that high sbhg is from liver issues. I think the best way out of this is htma and all around health. Have you tried low carb or fasting?

Oat straw is supposed to lower sbhg but I have never tried it.

I have tried fasting a couple of times. Both for week long juice fasts. I know people on this forum will have differing opinions on how long you need to fast for it to be beneficial but I was just losing way too much weight. (I’m already skinny)

I have not tried oat straw but have heard it mentioned. I’ve tried tongkat ali as well as boron etc.

One really interesting thing is that TEI’s sups mainly recommend me taking lots of magnesium and zinc. These both supposedly lower SHBG.

This condition is so strange and I just wish I could get stable. I was doing better, tried to go for a run and for the first time in my life I felt good whilst running and after. Then I subsequently crashed later that day. Insomnia panic and sexual symptoms get bad.

I’m off all supplements at the moment whilst I wait for a new hair test to come through. I managed an hours sleep last night. I wish I could exert myself to push myself in the right direction but it seems my body just can’t take it!

I still believe TEI definitely helps and has improved me in some areas and has probably been the best thing to help me mentally so I will continue along that path although I often feel the temptation to jump on r Andro but I know that is in no way a fix!

Let me just weigh in here - stick to your initial plan, which appears to be TEI. R Andro is just a piece of what I used and CDsnuts and others used to get cured. Just ONE piece of a whole puzzle which everyone forgets.

More people spend more time in this condition than necessary because they jump to "the next best thing" every time it comes around. The kitchen sink never works.....EVER. Slow and steady wins the race.....

Thanks Walker. Means a lot. It took me a year after crashing to come to that conclusion.

For the last couple of years I have lived the cleanest and best life I can and am better in ways but sexually in ways worse. It really swings quite rapidly between good and bad! I’ve come this far with TEI and I’m going to stick with it for the foreseeable future.

I’ve followed your log on here and Swolesource and always remind myself of you when I’m having a tough day. Hard work and persistence pays off!

Keep pushing man. You'll get there.
