Yep there has been lots of recent talk that retinol stored in the skin is part of the cause for sun burns, skin cancer. So sun exposure while flushing it out of the liver could be an issue until you completely detox.
I wonder if we could get a complete breakdown of what the liver actually stores.

You know what i mean man? maybe a healthy liver is like 30% vitamin A, 30% copper, 20% vitamin D, 10% b12, 10% manganese .... or something like that?

But perhaps an ex-accutane liver is something like 45% vitamin A, 20% copper, 15% vitamn D... etc, like skewed ratios? Any thoughts @Helen @mattyb ? Where would we find this info out?

Interesting thought! Seems to be as follows;

Great link thanks!

Vitamin E is stored and protects A (i wonder if this is why the liver flush is so useful, since it floods liver with olive oil... aka lots of vitamin E.) Maybe it flushes out excess stuff (A, D, copper, iron) and just replaces it with E??

Hmm

@Orion @Helen do you think its OK to do liver flushes while on TEI? i've done 2 so far, doing my 3rd next weekend. but i wonder if i should hold off on TEI supps until I finish them (aka i get no stones anymore - might take all year?)

Due to unforseen circumstances ive had to skip this liver flush for the week. Maybe not a bad thing... read below to find out more (heheh)
In other news, I have sent off my 4th hair sample for testing. Its been about 6 months since the last one.

Curiously my acne has come back on my chest and back with quite a vengeance @Orion @Helen @mattyb
I'm not exactly sure if this has occurred suddenly or not - I do remember seeing a few spots a few months back, but nothing major. I haven't been monitoring because acne hasn't been a problem for me in so long. But today at the pool i was asked by my stepson what those red spots on my chest were... I had a look in the mirror after and yeah, my acne is back. Lots of spots. Some ready to pop, puss filled.

This is after literally almost 10 years of next to no acne, i now have my chest, shoulders and upper back covered in spots. At age 27. WTF. Weirdly though, i have none on my face.

I have some mock theories as to why:
1. Emotional stuff: I have been going through some stuff, almost had a 6 year break up happen (luckily dodged that bullet and we;re still together) - which has prompted me to look at a lot of emotional stuff. As a result of this, i've done a somatic massage session which is supposed to release a lot of emotional stuff

2. Oxidation change: From fast to slow? (speculation): I've had an injury from tennis, a groin strain, and in the last 2 months or so i've been unable to exercise. Essentially, i've gone from getting heavy sweating workouts 3x a week to 0 sweating. As a teenager i didn't exercise much either. Maybe it has something to do with slowing down, and building up copper / calcium and thus not being able to eliminate toxins out (or perhaps even, the eliminative organ of my skin has more pressure put on it)

3. Dietary change: I've been eating lots of dairy these past few months (cheese and yoghurt). Initially, there was not a dramatic change. But i do recall seeing some spots appear a few months ago. If it is from this, i highly suspect its from the cheese more so than from the yoghurt, since I have a real issue with butter. I think there is something in the fat of dairy that upsets me. As soon as i have butter, i can feel like an hour later or so i have ear wax and it smells funny (like butter). Maybe its only just gotten really bad because the dairy fat takes awhile to build up in my system? I dunno.. argh.

4. Liver flushes: I've done 3 liver flushes in the past few months. Has this flushed a lot of the accutane out of my system, leaving only a little remaining to keep the acne at bay? i wonder if this will show huge changes in my next hair test. I wonder also if maybe its just the huge influx of vitamin E that is causing the acne. I remember i had a mild (but noticable) flare up of acne when I started adding hemp oil to my smoothies (only lasted a week or so). Perhaps my physiology cant handle that much essential fatty acid.

So change what you can, accept what you cant and know the difference right...

From here i'm going to eliminate cheese from my diet, and very curiously examine my hair test when it comes back (it will probably be a couple of weeks... its slow here in Aus!) - my groin strain seems to be healed now so i'll be able to return to exercise for now. I think I will also put a stop to the liver flushes for the time being. Hopefully running TEI by itself with get the accutane out without causing all the acne to come back. I'll run this for the next two months. If i see no improvements, i'll also take out the yoghurt (and be doomed to low calcium intake forever?!?! - unless of course, would the TEI supps account for this, and shift my physiology to upregulate calcium retaining so i stay balanced with low calcium intake anyway?)

----------

I've often asked myself this theoretical question:
Would i prefer to have acne, or dry eyes? I think I would prefer to not have taken accutane, but instead have done TEI if i knew about it 10 years ago.
Unfortunately... at least for the next few months, i'm stuck with dry eyes AND acne on my body.

I am guessing it partly due to the pre-formed retinol you are getting from the dairy that is causing it, probably too much vitamin A. I would go zero/low vitamin A until you done 10-20 liver flushes, need to make sure all the Tane is released and excreted.

What was your accutane dose and length of the cycle?

Dont remember unfortunately. I remember i went through 3 or 4 courses of it though, it worked the first few times but acne came back... until the last time, but unfortunately my eyes stayed dry.

Less than a month later, just to follow up this post, avoiding cheese/liver flushes has basically made my acne die down. Its almost gone now. I'm still having the yoghurt regularly too.

Heres my latest hair test, 4th one:

Not as good as my 3rd, but i hadn't been putting in as much effort. I also wasn't exercising as much during this period because of a groin strail. From here i will be following the TEI supplements for this test

Btw have you done a hair test since you've been on your vitamin A deficient diet?

Took hair sample at 3 months zero vitamin A, should have TEI results this or early next week.

Ya 3-4 courses of accutane probably means you have lots of stored vitamin A. Looks like sympack and minplex are both vitamin A free(retinyl palmitate), so that is good. And taking out liver and cheese will greatly reduced pre-formed retinol intake.

Hmm one thing also, the practitioner recommended i have calcium foods, "good fats", liver, veggies. Cut down on grains / fruits a bit. She also said i could have cod liver oil 1000mg a day and avoid stimulants or stimulating foods / drinks / herbs.

The hair test from TEI itself had some food recommendations too:
increase intake of high purine foods: liver, kidney, heart, sardines, tuna, clams, crab, lobster, oysters ... high / moderate purine should be 33% of the diet

That was interesting, because ive been getting a lot of my protein from beef. i actually did a DNA test once which said i suited Mediterranean diet more too..
I think because of my dairy intolerance perhaps i should be having more seafood for protein. Out of that list, sardines and tuna seem the most affordable. Particularly sardines actually, since they have bones and i need the calcium (and i cant get it from cheese now either)

increase intake of milk / milk products: cheese, yoghurt, cream, butter. nuts / seeds; almonds, walnuts, peanuts, peanut butter, sunflower seeds. foods high in fat should be 33% of the diet

reduce carb intake; cereals, grains, sugar, honey, candy, pastries, alcohol, bread

-----------

SUMMARY:

So basically since i dont want to have high vitamin A foods, i wont supplement the cod liver oil
I have limitations on what dairy i can have, basically it seems only yoghurt works.

It seems i should have sardines or tuna every day, olive oil, yoghurt, keep having almonds / walnuts, consider adding peanut butter to my diet too. Other than that, its pretty good. My diet slacked off a little since the 3rd hair test (especially more carbs), but it was still pretty good.

Hopefully the sardines / tuna will ramp up my cobalt as well, they seem to have a lot of b12. the sardines have a bit of vitamin A i noticed, but its not that much (90 UI a can, 3% of RDI)... i think its worth the cost ratio, at least for now. I will focus on TEI for awhile and give liver flushes a rest. (I completed 3)

Its curious this hair test i exercised less, and my hair test wasn't as good. I thought as a fast, it might be more balanced that i wasnt exercising.

Okay i've started my TEI supps for about a week now.

A lot has gone down lately...

-Broke up with GF(or rather, she broke up with me) after a 6 year relationship about 3 weeks ago
-We owned a house together so i moved out, now in a share house, been here 2 weeks
-We worked together, so i'm getting a new job... (just started today - tennis coaching)
-decided to go back to uni and study health / nutrition as it seems like my biggest interest in life, started 2 weeks ago
-Feeling really floaty with work / life / everything... my best mate lives in another state, maybe even considering moving over there

Damn, life kicks you in the guts sometimes.

I keep getting these random "hot flush" type feelings - i wonder if this is from the TEI (its trying to lower my sodium i imagine) or from all the stress i've been through lately.
I get kind of nervous / anxious about change (typical fast oxi), my heart has been pounding lately.
My "dry eyes" actually i guess havent been feeling so dry. Maybe TEI is helping. My distance vision seems a bit blurry though - its been this way for awhile but its pronounced at uni reading projector screens, i'm actually wondering if its from the almonds/walnuts i put in my smoothie. I'm overhauling my diet a bit to get rid of these nuts and include more veggies.

@mattyb @Orion @Helen @Boris

give me some love guys.
