Dude, I'm not trying to make this a partisan argument lol. Obama made some bad decisions regarding immigration too - never said he didn't - but in this case family separations were not an "Obama" thing. There were cases of it happening during the Obama administration, but at vastly lower rates because the Obama administration did not instate a policy requiring that immigrant parents be detained separate from their children. Trump did, and that's the difference. And I never understood the "it's on the parents" argument - of course parents understand that coming into another country with their children is a risk, but many take that risk because the risk of poverty and/or violence at home is greater. Why does that make it okay for the government to take their kids away from them with no plan to reunite them? Where is the logic there?

And why would CNN be my perfect news source? CNN is sensationalist garbage.

I know lol, I'm an independent anyways. To be honest, I picked CNN because the three topics you spoke about are the ones mostly spewed by them (Russia collusion, family separation and trade or relationships in general with other countries) so I assumed you were a fan of them.

I can respect that you are at least aware that this has been happening under other administrations as many people are not. But where do you draw the line though, I mean if everyone from Mexico just walked over here illegally, where do you draw the line of who gets in and who doesn't? I'm not for family separation unless absolutely required, but there are cases where there is definitely child/human trafficking and separating the families can help sort that issue out easier. I mean what if a kid is literally walking across the border with a cartel member labelled as his "dad", then what?

Never said the kids shouldn't be treated well, I'm just saying some of the logic behind family separation is due to child trafficking. It's the same situation in a domestic dispute, law enforcement arrives, then the parties get separated and questioned individually. Of course majority of them are not child traffickers I'm sure, but it still does happen pretty often.

What strategy would you suggest then to screen illegal immigrants that come from an area where gang violence and cartels are largely from to prevent say something like human trafficking?

I don't think anyone is suggesting we dissolve immigration systems and let people walk into our country, just don't indiscriminately separate kids from their parents for chrissakes. But you should probably fortify your bunker against MS-13 just in case.

But what specifically is he fucking up on? He just settled a trade agreement with Mexico and Canada this week, cutting the trade deficit by millions especially the US dairy industry when prior to that all the liberals were crying that we were basically at war with Mexico and Canada lol. He is just a tough negotiator that is all, no foreign country is just going to give in on trade so trump just pushes the boundaries until they do i.e. tariffs etc. EU and China are next but his methods are working so far which you just saw this week with the USCMA. Even if you say his improvements are small or neutral, he definitely isn't "hurting" us. I mean just look at the stats from unemployment to the stock market.

The separation of family at the borders was already in place prior to Trump. This has been going on throughout previous administration in the past and no one cared. All Trump did was enforce it more, which if you knew about the campaign he ran on, immigration was a key component. So to blame that on Trump only does not make sense. To be honest, why would you bring your kids to another country illegally and expect to walk right in freely, seems more on the parents to me.

The thing I don't get about the Russia issue is that no matter what he does liberals are never happy. Shouldn't compare to nations that are worse than you at something, that's historically how the great nations get complacent and stagnate. People criticise the US policy and not Mexico's cause the US is the most powerful country on Earth, the world leader and we hold you guys to a high standard

If a group is suspected of child trafficking the children should be taken somewhere and treated well with access to support, everything should be well documented to ensure speedy reunion with the parents. The real outrage here was the fact that the kids were in many cases put in what were essentially cages, and that there was no plan to reunite them. None of the anti child trafficking institutions recommend wide scale family separation to combat it.
